As a hypothetical, would anyone be interested in a swap with Monaco?

James Rodriguez for Paul Pogba

Monaco is asking 75 million euro, which is roughly equal to our ask for Pogba.

Ultimately, this would be a swap from a position of strength to a position for weakness.
You'd still need to add a right-footed winger for the 4-3-3, but adding James Rodriguez would be a tactical blessing as he can play anywhere on the forward line and is right-footed. This is an elite attacking midfielder/winger. You'd still have Vidal, Marchisio, Pirlo and Asamoah who are all capable central midfielders. You would technically be able to play a 4-3-3, a 4-2-3-1, and 3-4-1-2 or a 3-4-1-2.

The question is, would anyone do it? And if not, would there be a certain level of cash from Monaco that would tip your opinion? It may be something of interest to Monaco due to Pogba's French nationality and because they'd be able to keep him away from PSG at the same time. Plus it would stop us from splashing 25 on Iturbe...

Swapping players between Pogba and J.Rod will not improve the team. Rather, we might risk taking over someone who could flop over a proven player. We should keep Pogba and strengthen the team around him.
Signing up Iturbe for 25 million, by any means has not proven a bad transfer yet.

Interesting thing is though that whilst Pogba is rumoured to Chelsea, United, PSG, Arsenal and every other big team in Europe for massive dollars, has anyone contemplated Pogba being a flop elsewhere or not developing into this superstar world player of the year that everyone is tipping him to be in the coming years?

Pogba had a good season with Juve, but he could become a one season wonder as well. I doubt this will happen but it must be said that he has had one good year, playing decently enough in the WC and scored a header....is 72m for Pogba too much?

For me sometimes it is a case of being a juve supporter so pogba should be worth 100m but players from other teams are never worth what clubs are asking for.

I don't agree with that all considering he didn't come out of left field and was sold for big money last year. Just like the U-21 World Cups were Pogba's coming out party, the WC is James Rodriguez'. That being said, Pogba obviously is just as superb.

I'm give my left nut to see a player like James on Juventus. As for him being a flop, IMO the chances of Rodriguez flopping is like 0.5% and it would probably be injury related. Players of that quality don't flop. Players purchased from Provincial teams who were the only offensive weapon at that team's disposal may flop (Amauri, Isla etc.). If you have a small tool kit you can flop, but Rodriguez is good at passing, shooting from range, dribbling, creating chances, and finishing.

Here's a prediction: Rodriguez will be better than Neymar. Rodriguez is way more complete. Neymar is a great dribbler and has good vision. He is deceptive and can finish. Rodriguez is a great dribbler (but not as good as Neymar), and is arguably a better passer. He is a much greater threat from a distance, while still being capable in the box. He can cross the ball well, and is a dangerous set piece threat (more so than Neymar).

Iturbe is James Rodriguez with his brain removed and a bit more speed. He is a good dribbler, and a great distance shooter, but he doesn't have an ounce of creativity and he isn't a great passer. Rodriguez on the other hand is a complete winger/attacking mid.

I was jk anyways. What i really think is that this WC will inflate his value wayy beyond reasonable limits... maybe beyond his skill's worth. But i could eb wrong and he can end up being the next world beater. Who knows

James is a good player but nowhere near as good as thought to be!
I expected him to do well in the WC as Columbia are a good side and he is the scoring type of winger
There are many wingers I`d take over him even if I wouldnt mind him eigther...

As for Pogba the kid is very young extremely talented and could easily fetch us 75M if not 100M within the next coming seasons

Second thing is you`d have to sell him one season later if he impress as Real would be all over him and I doubt he would say he would rather stay here. If he doesnt impress thats even worse

As for Yedlin he wouldnt be a bad choice for the right amount but only if we want to then sell him for a higher value! I dont see him as good enough or as one who would be good enough to ever play for us

That's a fantastic mercato, with players like Herrmann, Kruse, Raffael, Xhaka and Thorgan Hazard, who is most likely going to join them, they have a great shot at getting CL spots without spending ridiculous amounts of money.

well selling ter stegen for 12 to buy the 3 years older sommer for 8? not so great imo. hahn is great value for money though due to a retarded release clause.

And if the rumours are true about Kroos going to Real for 25M, that is just another confirmation about what I said earlier.

1 year left on his contract. that puts his "true" value at around 50m with rumored 8m in wages ^^

Rodriguez haven't shown anything yet , and you fail to highlight that big talents can also flop in when they switch leagues . I.E . Diego and Veron.
Where do you go by swapping Pogba for J.Rod, does it improve the team? Marotta keeping Pogba and signing Iturbe who is already proven he can do in play in the league at least is the smarter choice. Rather than losing Pogba, have no replacement for him and sign J.Rod who we wouldn't know if he can assimilate to the league. J.Rod himself already said no to EPL because it's too physical for him, what do you expect of Serie A ? They will butcher him.
