I think the only way we get Di Maria is through a Pogba sale. They reason: competition...
If it's part of a player swap, there will be no real premium embedded, however, if its a cash purchase, Real Madrid will look to get the best possible bid.
If I'm Marotta, I don't bother with cash deals, I swap Pogba directly for Modric & Di Maria. And let's assume we add Adriano:
Giovinco-Tevez-Di Maria
Vidal-Modric-Marchisio
Adriano-Chellini-Barzagli-Lichtsteiner
Why I think this works?
-I think Giovinco is perfectly suited for a 4-3-3, and however, if he doesn't excel there you can bring Nani in cheap.
-Di Maria has played 6 games as a right sided forward, scoring 4 goals and assisting 3 times.
-Modric is the perfect player to replace Pirlo: He obviously is not Pirlo caliber creatively but he is still an elite playmaker but is better defensively, and a heck of a lot more versatile.
-Vidal & Marchisio are perfect to give Modric space.
-Tevez can almost play a false 9 role, where he will make space for Giovinco & Di Maria by dropping deep.
