Only one being stupid here is you

I'm still waiting for that list of 5 better defences than Juve.

As it stands, our defence can not be improved significantly, it's definitely good enough for the CL. Plenty of teams with inferior defences have done a hell of a lot better than us
Dont be silly,i wasnt talking about replacing them but you're having a hard time understanding what i'm saying so i'll let it go.

Let me make it clear once and for all.

The term 'world class' is being used loosely here. This defense on an Italian level is excellent but i'm yet to be convinced if this defense is top class for European level which in my opinion is a valid claim.

This is called being realistic not stupid.

But our defence was far from the main reason we exited the CL

In SIX games, we scored 5 goals from open play. Our shot-goal conversion rate was among the worst in the CL. Yes, there were defensive mistakes. The biggest ones that come to mind is from Caceres (Our 2nd/3rd choice RWB) Bonucci (Our weak link in the starting XI) and Chiellini (Although his red card was pathetic)

My point is, our midfield and our defence is set. We don't need to match Madrid & Co man for man on the Wing in terms of quality, because our midfield and defence is at a very high level.

It's not our defences fault that the attack couldn't get the job done.

I don't think a back 4 with Prime Thuram and Maldini would have gotten us far in the CL considering our two top scorers (Strikers) were Llorente (2) and Quagliarella (2)

Maybe we wouldn't have to defend so much if we could put together an actual attacking threat in Europe.

9 goals against in 6 games in the CL is far from good. Especially as Juventus.

The defense is poor, which sucks because the system sucks and it means we have to buy Franz Lother Matthaus Beckenbauer.

5 goals from open play in 6 games.... not a single game we played did we manage to score more than once from open play.

The defence is suffering because of the system, and the attack not carrying its weight.

I want the 433 as well, but the defense won't improve at all with these players and an older Barzagli.

I remember when people said we are "building a base of players" for the future. Where the fuuck are those players now? Oh wait, they are doing nothing on the bench. Quag, Pepe, Isla, Matri, Ogbonna, et cetera aren't even good backups. They were just a waste of time and the only reason why they were targeted is because they are Italian or know Badass Vidal.

Good points and i agree attack is where Juventus needs to improve but i'm only arguing the claim that our defense is elite which i dint agree to. Not that i wanted replacements.

Our defense is very good and yes we're set in the position for now.

I'm pretty worried regarding the age of this squad. Next season we'll see these numbers: Buffon (36), Chiellini (30), Licht (30), Barzagli (33), Pirlo (35), Tevez (30). These players have one thing in common -- they are all our key players (Chiellini & Gigi to a lesser extent at this point). We should not do the same mistake as Milan when they won the CL when they had many old players but they decided not to replace them or buy some younger ones at least for bench.

We'll also have Llorente 29, Pepe 31, Peluso 30, Padoin 30. I'm also not going to mention Mirko and Quag because I believe we'll sell them. Pretty worrying IMO.

Yeah our bench could do with some changes. People say we have great depth (It's still better than the serie A competition) but the truth is, we really don't

Those same people cringe whenever we have to use some bench players. The gap in quality is just too big. Without our first choice wing-backs, our entire system collapses.
We can't rotate more than 1 midfielder at a time without an insane drop in quality. And our sub attackers are either injured all the time or absolutely useless unless they're given 30 meters of space.

Buffon
Barza - Hummels - Giorgio
Lich - Vidal - Pirlo - Pogba - Asa
Tevez - Llorente

Storari, Caceres, Bonucci, Ogbonna, Padoin, Evra, Marchi, F. Rossi/Marrone, Cerci/Nani/Lavezzi, Osvaldo, Menez, Seba.

Thoughts?

We didn't get knocked out the CL because of our defense, it was because of our lack of offense. 3-5-2 is good to us in many ways, we're always one man extra in midfield and one man extra in defence if we want but in offence we only have Tevez basically. Llorente is dependent on what he gets offered by the creative players. For next year we need another offensively skilled player to take some of the load from Tevez.

I expect EPL teams and PSG to increase the gap with us in the coming years. This year was the year we could've done something noteworthy in CL and at most next season as well but i'm not so sure.

Look at Dortmund for instance. They had one year of fame and their financial situation dragged them down and will do so in the coming seasons.Arguably its all down to finances in the end.

I definitely dont see an Italian team winning a CL in the near future.Making Quarters would be considered as a success and maybe if we get some lucky draws we can make semis at most.

I don't think Dortmund is doing particularly bad, though. Sure they are second, but like they have a chance against this Bayern. In CL they have reached quite a lot this year IMO. I agree about PSG but I think I'd add Monaco there as I expect them to spend big in the summer and become quite competitive.

As for Italian teams I totally agree.

Yeah but my point is they're ultimately being forced to sell their best players which doesnt speak highly of them.Last year's Dortmund was prime Dortmund and i dont think you can expect them to be challenging in the coming years even though they've done well this year.Harsh reality for some of these clubs.Limited budget and good scouting can only take you so far.
