But why would we need another addition to our (central) midfield?

He would be 5th choice at best, so I really don't see the need.
I doubt he would be 5th choice. You have to consider Pirlo's age. He might not be around next year and that leaves us with 3 good midfielders Marchisio, Pogba and Vidal. Nainggolan could easily replace any of those 3 and we wouldn't want Pogba to become spoiled.

Look at Bayern, Barca, RM etc their bench is full of talent.. we have Padoin.
They're also able to afford such a team. We're not.

Also, Padoin is the kind of player we need.

He would most definitely be 5th choice today. And that's not even taking Asamoah into account, who is a superior player imo.

And if it's for next season, why not be patient & see what comes up?

Next year someone else might snatch him. Milan will I believe have more funds than last few years, Inter with their new investor as well and there is always danger of foreign competitor. He's one of the top mids in Italy. I can see why Conte wants him. 3 competitions, Marchisio is injured and it seems to be more problems lately regarding his injury and consistency, Pogba is young and needs to mature and get reasonable playing time and Pirlo as we all have seen last year can't play every game. Some swap deal including our youngsters could be the way to go.

I don't think we have enough money to play that game, we are not Real Madrid or Man City, stockpiling players so others can't have them.
Who's talking about stockpiling? Having 5 good midfielders for 3 positions is not stockpiling especially considering that one is 34, the other is inconsistent and lately struggling with injuries while Pogba although very talented needs to mature. And deal if I've read correctly this morning would include our youngsters.

Finding a midfielder lile naingocunt at the price ww have to pay for him is always doable. Always.
You like him and you're totally not underrating him. :D

if we spend it, i assume we have it.

looking at the list of subs for a match its hard to see anyone coming on that can make any impact...if i were to read nainggolan instead of padoin then fuck yea...

"padoin is the type of player we need"..lol..suuure, thats why we border on abusing him almost every game he plays...in CM whatever good contribution he makes is only incremental..

Buy Coentrao and you have Asamoah as your 5th 'good' midfielder. That's a much better way to spend the money we supposedly don't have.
:agree:

But if we continue to play Asamoah on the left then we need another competent CM, we currently have only Pogba and if god forbit someone gets injured like Marchisio is now then we would have no back-ups at all. (Padoin is meh)

By that logic though, you could still make a case for our defense too. The most tangible impact would be bettering on a starting position. Which is why I'd go with Coentrao over Naingollan.

Signing players just to make sure other clubs can't is bullshit.

I'm still not sure what's so great about this guy either. Sure, he's fairly good, but in no way is he better than our current 4 mids (or 5, if you count Asamoah). Which makes signing him completely unnecessary.

Then again, he is Belgian :D

Well, you, in my opinion. Adding a €15m+ player like Nainggolan to CM when it is already the strongest area of the team; already has Pirlo and Vidal established, already has brought up Pogba vs Marchisio selection battles, already has another CM having to play LWB, already has Marrone looking for another club, and several of our best prospects also play in this position. In that respect those resources could be better spent elsewhere, because there is no point in stacking up big fee big salary players in one area whilst going light in others.

For the record I happen to like Nainggolan a lot, as a player.

Pirlo might leave next year, Marchisio is inconsistent, Pogba regardless of his talent is still a youngster, Asamoah is playing as LWB and will continue this year, the likes of Marrone and Padoin aren't good enough even for a bench. Padoin is more suited to play as RWB as he had some decent games there.

What resources? They were talking of a swap deal including Marrone and Beltrame. They aren't exactly the hottest commodity around.

What prospects do we have there? Appelt is not good enough. His physique is poor. Buoy, Kabashi? I can't see any hot prospect lurking around ready to break into our senior team. Correct me if I'm wrong.

What big salary? He would get something like 3m per year and sales of Quag, Matri are more than enough to finance that. Even regardless of their sales we could afford him. In return we would get good established player, fairly young who will probably generate lot of interest in years to come and would be valuable addition to our midfield. Having Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Pogba and Nainggolan and considering our ambitions this year which are I believe familiar to all of us would give us more competitive edge.
