If you look at the team before and the gaps needed to be filled it's not that much. He should have done better in some of the transfers of course but some of the signings were a real gem like Pirlo, Vidal, Licht, Barzagli, Asamoah, Pogba. Even Moggi who I respect the most had occasional blunders.

I get that they're scared because of the fkups with Diego/Amauri/Melo but we have no choice. 'Sure things' are out of range so we need to take risks on someone likely to step up.

Beppe's announced objective (even after the Llorente deal) is still to bring a top class forward and there is no shortage of those on the market this season. Higuain, Tevez, Jojo, Sanchez, Mario Gomez, David Villa, Cavani, Lewandowski, Suarez, Chicarito are all transferable targets and we do have the budget for atleast one of them strikers.

Suarez, Cavani, Falcao are very difficult to get and thats very understandable but if we end up signing none of the rest while Arsenal signs Higuain or Milan signs Tevez or fiorentina signs Mario Gomez then there is no way to defend Marotta anymore.

We are definitely more attractive than Arsenal, Milan and Viola and we definitely have deeper pockets than them with the exception of Arsenal perhaps (assuming they will uncharacteristically start spending).

Marotta has the more attractive club growth, arguably the more attractive wallet and definitely the more attractive coach than all our competitors who share the same objective (purchasing a top striker) and are after the same players that he is after.

If anything, Milan should be worried we are after Tevez, Arsenal should be worried we are after Higuain, and Fiorentina should be worried we are after Gomez. We have the damn upper hand here! If any of Milan, Arsenal, Liverpool, Fiorentina, or Inter purchase a top striker and we don't then Marotta is definitely a horrible transfer director.

Bro, Tevez is 29. That is peak for a football player. He has at least 3 world class years left in him. RvP is 29. That's hardly comparable with where Anelka is in his career. He is 34 and has been washed up for at least 2 seasons. You cannot return to your peak or anything close to being relevant when you move to weaker leagues or show no continuity at any point in your career path. Tevez is such a different proposition from Anelka.

There is but it's not representative to judge his whole Juve career through the prism of signing top forward. If City or Chelsea offer 30M for Jovetic is it his blame? I like Jojo but lest's be realistic he's injury prone and kinda gambe. 20-22M at most if that. Arsenal have more money than us so we can't enter into a bidding war with them over Higuain. He has gone out and idenfitifed players that you consider to be unreachable in the petrodollar climate. Why do so in the first place? And he MUST be judged for it because it's taken him 3 years to fill one spot which believe it or not has been a glaring issue since his arrival and has a very tangible consequence on the pitch. When you walk away from bidding wars or want player's on your terms, it means you are actually making excuses for not being able to negotiate at a certain level on the European stage. You can make all the excuses you want to defend him, but if he fails and Fiorentina end up signing Gomez, it will just show how despite all the excuses of a weak league and transfer wages, it makes a difference when you move with intent.

If he doesn't intend to sign Higuain and Jojo with teams not willing to negotiate then what is he waiting around for on the Tevez deal? Which is much simpler financially speaking. Is he waiting for Milan's inclusion? So he can walk away from the deal?

There are no excuses for the failures to such deals if they happen over three years and six mercato windows.

That's the whole point. Why do we identify publicly, those players we don't have the funds to compete for? As for Tevez, when his agent is flying to Italy every second week, it shows the interest of the player to move away. In such a scenario, if you move with intent and show the player you want him like how we've done with Jojo, it does help influence his decision making to move away. But instead we are waiting for the situation to 'develop' thinking its going to move on our terms. Which it is not.
