Last night was men against boys. I do realize we can't spend insane amounts on one player, but we do need a drastic improvement in terms of quality going forward. The gulf in class between our attack and Bayern's was so evident last night. Yes, we didn't play to our potential, but our forwards are simply not up to the standard in Europe. They might be able to play a couple of good games, but in the end class shows. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Guys like Quag, Matri, and to a certain extent Vucinic are good enough for Serie A, but hardly a reference point when we play the big guns in Europe. Giovinco is good enough for a mid table club side, but nowhere near good enough for us.

All the clubs that want to win/have won titles in Europe over the past few years have a formidable attack.

What was once again pointed out from yesterdays match is that 3-5-2 in most cases don´t work in CL when our backline is being pressured..

We need to have a plan b; 4-3-3 or 4-3-1-2..

I always prefferd Jovetic as out top priority this summer, but now I am starting to think that Sanchez would be the ideal signing as he can play both SS and RW, and because he has the same Vidal-metality to never giver up and press the opponent, even if the rest of the team is playing like "shite"...

Also, both Vucinic and especially Giovinco can play as LW. Also, Giovinco is better suited to play on the flanks to use his acceleration and flair, and I believe he has the work rate to track back effeciently, even if his physical and defensive skills are poor..

Having Llorente as main ST in 4-3-3 should do the trick with Matri as back-up, since Matri has no ball-control at ALL, but is quite good at finishing, he could do well as a lone poacher, not taking part in the build-up..

In sum, buy Sanchez and sell Quaq

Sanchez, Giovinco, Vucinic, Llorente and Matri would be a good and doable upgrade to our current forward-line while also allowing us to play 4-3-3 when needed.

Now, go do it Marotta! :-D

we don't need quality that badly... we need different tactics vs the germans... with 3 defenders our defence got shred to pieces because of the wingers of bayern. 4-3-3 and we could actually win against them (though i don't think it would be 3-0)

edit: the guy above me sums it up perfectly... a good plan B that doesn't has 3 defenders in it

Even just having a fit Vucinic would have made a big difference.

You can scratch Draxler from your list. Schalke would never sell, as he has contract until 2016 so you can forget to get him. BTW why do all the people think the German players are easy to get and even more confusing to think they are cheap? Schalke is like Napoli when it comes to selling their top players and when this player comes from their own youth, then they are crazy stubborn.

Anyway, Draxler was interviewed in detail last Saturday and he stated, that his wish is to play for a big club in the future. A little shocking for the Schalke fans to hear (that Schalke apparently is no top club), but IMO he wants to avoid a Manuel Neuer situation, where everybody was thinking he will stay forever and never moving to Bayern. Draxler seems to know what he wants and I can see him moving one day not too far away, but it will never ever be this upcoming summer..no chance.

If somebody is interested in that interview: http://translate.google.co.in/trans...n-um-vidal_jetzt-steigt-auch-chelsea-ein.html

We could definitely snatch Sanchez this summer and he would be a good signing. His price deflated and is region of 20-25M I believe. Other thing I would like us to address is LB position. Chiellini is a great defender but as LB he can't produce enough offensively. If we want to have a plan B we should be able to switch just like you said formations from time to time. This 3-5-2 I hope is just a transition as I would like to see us playing more with back 4.

Yeah that's why I asked :p

Never heard of him but apparently he's gonna play for Serbian NT in the future.
Djuricic, mate. Keep an eye on that guy.

He is skilled like no other player. His ballcontrol is insane. He signed with Benfica, but he's going to be a WC player in the coming years.

And it shows how much football has changed. Could you imagine an Italian club paying a record fee today?

Actually, not necessarily Italian but rather clubs without oil money.
True that to an extent.
As some posted Real M already, I would add: Barcelona, Bayern and United are doing it still too. Putting it this way it seems we've been left behind, rather than football's financial might in general. Some might even argue that the philosophy of our club is a bit smaller or , at the very least, different. Remember those 'plasma TV' comments from our president....

My whishlist is that we use all of our money on attackers. Sell Quag,Matri release Anelka and Bendtner.

Keep Vucinic and Giovinco, with Llorente coming. Then use the money on a player like Suarez, our attack needs a extreme makeover. Shiit Matri can't controll a football ffs. Quagliarella scores a dream goal sometimes and then miss a open goal, neither of Matri and Quagliarella is good enough for Juve, even If I like them as persons.

In Suarez 40 million euros.

Out Quagliarella,Matri,Iaquinta,Bendtner, Anelka

No need for more
