If we could get Benatia, how do you think Barzagli would de in Bonucci's role?
Better than Bonucci. But if Pirlo gets marked out we'll have no one that is really comfortable with the ball back there. Not that Bonucci is Xabi Alonso but he is more comfortable than Barza.

Barza would be an enormous upgrade defensively though.

Personally I wouldn't want to lose him as a man-marker that he is now. He is great there. I would give Marrone a shot.

I'd like to say Marrone play more back there too.
And I love Barzagli. I though he was stellar last night. He's a ball winner, not much else to say. And his positioning is the best of the defenders on the team.

Only issue would be that a back three with Benatia and Barzagli in it would look pretty vulnerable on high balls.

I'd want at least two of the CBs to be big, aerially dominant guys, like Chiellini and Bonucci.

Barzagli and Benatia are both too inclined to merely try and stop their man heading it, rather than really taking the responsibility to win the header themself to clear it properly.

Well Benatia is only two centimeters shorter than Bonucci and more athletic, haven't really paid attention to his "jump" though.

I want defenders who are comfortable with the ball and Bonucci is good with the ball. Problem with 3-5-2 is that when its not working you end up forcing your back 3 dominating the possession of the ball, not the midfield. And if your defenders are not good enough with the ball it could get you real problems.

It's not about height.

Barzagli is plenty tall enough, but he doesn't attack the ball properly in the air, and neither does Benatia.

Hummels should be our marquee signing next summer if we could get Llorente in January.

Now with the squad set, we have great depth, all we need is a star/bordline star signing every summer.

Hummels wouldn't be a big improvement over Bonucci, at least not for what he's going to cost. If you're not happy with Bonucci's mistakes, well Hummels makes just as many.
No way, Bonnucci makes at least a big mistake once a game, i can rarely recall games where he was flawless. Hummels is miles ahead of Bonnucci.

Hummels is massively overrated if you're going by his pricetag. He reminds me alot of Bonucci because he always makes atleast one massive error per game. His positioning isn't his strongest feat either. I wouldn't like to have him here, not at that price anyway.
