Where is this hope that we will still make a marquee signing coming from exactly? I have a strong feeling after Marotta's words that we won't end up signing any more strikers other than Destro. Buy him and where exactly are the funds for a 25M+ striker going to come from? And considering the exhausted options, who would that 'top' striker possibly be? Last year Marotta basically promised a top signing and we ended up with Vucinc. What do you think will happen after he's said we don't even need one?
Those are good questions, man. It is still early, and we're definitely going to raise some cash by selling a few players - plus, Matri and Conte, or potentially Matri, Marrotta, and another team, will need to work something out.
Matri didn't feature much this year - as in 2012 - and it kind of felt as though there's some sort of disconnect, or friction between he and Conte. How else could one explain Borriello featuring so regularly? So that type of scenario could potentially occur, and open a hole in the lineup. I do remember some quote by his agent saying that they were scheduling a meeting with management, to talk about his situation.
I think it depends largely on what opens up on the market. If RvP moves to another big club, it could shake a quality striker loose - potentially Dzeko at City? Although Robin's dad said he wouldn't go there. Anyway, an opportunity may present itself.
