Yes, we need a great striker. But many people tend to overrate the importance of signing one. We should sign one at OUR terms and otherwise use pur money on other gaps in the team.

Look at the Euros... The Netherlands were completely toothless as well, with Van Persie up top...

 Cuz one tournament makes a player eh? :howler:

If our terms means not paying over 20-22 Million in cash, then tough shit. The market is inflated, and if we want that top striker, we have to overpay, as there are others who are willing to do so.

No one is over-rating shit. It's a priority, and one of tantamount importance. What's the point of having a formidable defense and a stellar midfield if they are feeding balls to players of the quality of Borriello, Matri, and Quag? No disrespect to the latter two (I have nothing to say about the former really), but they just aren't good enough to lead the line at a big and ambitious club like Juventus.

All the top teams have a top forward, and we need one too.

United: Rooney
City: Are you fucking kidding me?
Chelsea: Torres
Real Madrid: Take your pick
Barcelona: See above
Bayern: Gomez (even though I dislike him)

Even shitbags like Arsenal and Napoli have difference makers in RVP and Cavani.

Liverpool who is ranked lower then ever before has a better striker. I think lewandowski is the best choose for us. 22-25m € and he should be ours

Lewandowski would be a good option, but he can't be that top player. I'd be happy with Lewa if we got JoJo from Fiorentina somehow as well.

Lewa or Dzeko alone are not marquee/key signings in my book. Higuain/Suarez/RVP or that caliber of player is what I'm talking about.

There are still quality players out there, and we should be targeting them. We need to show more ambition and be more vigorous/rigorous when targeting our top player; no one said it's going to be easy.

However, I do tend to agree with you that European football isn't just suffering from a forward slump, but an overall slump. In fact, football the world over is nowhere near the level it was 10-12 years ago.
totally agree i wonder if its because football is now more physical and so results driven their technique somehow gets lost in this new way of playing football. players like fat ronaldo, del piero, totti, maldini, cannavaro, pirlo, xavi, riquelme, henry, ronaldinhios of the footballing world are few and far between and what the hell happened to all the great wing backs that used to play? lol

If our terms means not paying over 20-22 Million in cash, then tough $#@!. The market is inflated, and if we want that top striker, we have to overpay, as there are others who are willing to do so.

No one is over-rating $#@!. It's a priority, and one of tantamount importance. It was just an example and no, we don't have to overpay for anyone. Besides, it doesn't matter, because we simply don't have the means to pay over 30 mil, except for a spectacular striker like Higuain maybe (if it could ever become a possibility).

Chelsea has Torres, yes. Funny :). Barcelona actually don't have a top CF. But that's another category. But the question is do these great strikers make those teams great or the other way around ?

We can also change the direction of the arguement. What is the use of having a top CF with other gaps in the team... We can easily buy the Kolarovs, Ranocchias, maybe a young CF of this world
And add a great CF next year.

With or without that CF, we won't challenge for the CL, face it. So there is no need in splashing cash and getting a 4th choice attacker just to please some fans. We need our 1st or 2nd choice or nothing at all.

That's exactly what we mustn't do. Waste more funds on meaningless acquisitions.

I'm not saying go out and splash 50 Million on Cavani, Higuain, or Van Persie, but if the difference is somewhere between 5-8 Million, then we must be willing to make some sacrifices and compromises for the greater good of the team.

Regarding Chelsea, I was referring to Drogba. He may be old, but the way he carried them through when they needed him most, shows that he is a class player. Do you see Matri or Quag doing the same for us? I highly doubt it.

We may or may not challenge for the CL this year, next year, or even the year after. However, that isn't for you or me to decide; it's down to the management, and I do recall them saying we are in it to win it, otherwise there'd be no point in competing. The onus is on them to deliver, and that's why a top class CF is essential. We can't keep delaying shit every year. We said the same thing last year, and we had legitimate excuses; this time around, we barely have any, if not none at all.

Juventus have always had quality strikers/forwards; our history and tradition demands it. Either we get JoJo/Suarez (even though they are not supreme goal scorers, they are high quality and versatile) this year, and Higuain/Cavani the next (or vice-versa), or this mercato will be deemed a failure by me, as we simply failed to address our most pressing issue, the need for a proven goal scorer.

I agree 100% even with Drogba but it's not the 5-8 million difference that I worry about. For instance Cavani is being touted for 70 million. There should be no combo of money or money and players that we should even consider. Now if he was at 35-40 and we offered 30 then maybe the sacrifice should be made
