In 2010/11 he was considered the best young defensive midfielder in Europe and earned several France call ups... deservedly so as he had an impressive season with his club Rennes. He was strongly linked with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City but didn't move as he wanted to help Rennes one last season and Rennes wasn't ready to sell. They were offered 20m+ money but refused.
In 2011/12 his performances dropped drastically and his attitude inside and outside the pitch was shocking. Even with constant scandals and poor form with Rennes, M'Vila earned somehow a place in France's Euro 2012 team. As everyone saw he had a horrible show there, not only had some shocking performances but he also refused to shake hands with his replacement – also ignored France boss Laurent Blanc, and created problems in the dressing room alongside Samir Nasri and Menez (was it Menez? Can't remember clearly).
When Deschamp took over he said that M'Vila, Nasri etc. will have it hard to come back to the team, basically he was dropped from France's team with the likes of Capoue taking over.
So after failing to get a place back in France's team, he was called up for France's U21 team. But M'Vila decided to make shit happen again. M'Vila and Mavinga, along with Antoine Griezmann, Mbaye Niang and Wissam Ben Yedder, went nightclubbing in Paris before the second leg of France's Under-21 2013 European Championship qualifier against Norway and had a horrible match losing 5-3.
The pair have since been condemned to training with Rennes' reserves, while they have not been named in today's squad for the Ligue 1 trip to Saint-Etienne.
Rennes manager Antonetti explained himself: "We can talk about betrayal," Antonetti said. "I talked so much with them, but it was useless. I'm the first to suffer in this situation.
"I don't know yet when they will return, but it couldn't be until May 31. I won't have confidence in them as men anymore and I can't make the difference between the man and the player. That's why I'm affected - more than I show.
"I made this decision to make them understand, but I don't know if they do. I have doubts about that. I made this decision for the club too, they have to be professional. They'll come back one day."
I can bet that Rennes regret not accepting atleast one of the offers they got in the past two years.
