So if we had paid for getting Lucio, that would have made him a better signing?
Why are you comparing Bonucci with Marchisio, Vidal and Pirlo?
It was not Marotta's fault Secco paid his release clause, and as it has been said several times, no one in their right mind would pay double digits for him.
Barring some exceptions,(Pirlo) you mostly get what you pay for. Most of the free players are not reliable enough, the proven ones usually have fitness issues and a tendency to injuries, i dint want to mention that earlier, so that i wouldnt jinx Lucio, but just after one game, we have lost him for months...
Of course such a thing cannot be anticipated with any degree of certainty, but if you keep gambling, you increase the chances of drawing a sort stick...
What i am criticising here, is that we systematically invest on CMs and taking risks with our CBs
In the 3-5-2, we will use the same ammount of CMs and CBs, in every game, 3 for each line.
For this reason, the quality and the quantity are directly comparable.
Our midfield is arguably our strongest line.
We have very strong starters and they have formed a formidable union of high performance.
There is no reason to upset this balance with uneeded competion, so younger players who are close enough in quality and have the potential to reach there and even go beyond, all the while have the patience to sit on the best is the optimal choice.
Pogba was a really smar move. The boy felt that over there he had no opportunities to play, become better and proove his worth.
Here, he could do that, offering his services, in the rare occassion, one of the starters wouldnt be available, or had to be rested.
Signing useless guys like Padoin or Piazenza, who are not any better than him now, neither have the potential to be in the future,
all the while rotting at the bench at the most productive age of the carriers is counterprodusive.
I would like us to give more playing chances to Pogba and Maronne and since Padoin is here, we are covered by an eventual streak of injuries, at least untill x-mas.
Whilst on our rear guard, we do have a liability, called Bonucci and no other option.
Playing Caceres,Maronne or Licht as CB, is the same as playing Giovinco, Pepe and Giaccherini as CMs, its decent but still a compromise.
I am comparing the lines to point out, that the back line had weaker starter options, weaker performance and weaker sub options.
So they had to be given priority and not to be negletted. I m sure that Conte demanded that, but Marotta and whoever is controlling his hand, again has opted for a no investment, quick fix.
This happened for many consecutive seasons to be a coincidence, it is a pattern that is repeating it self and i disagree with it.
We have suffered enough from this issue imo, it is time to do smth about it!
It is a mistake to keep taking it lightly after all what happened! And yet we are keep risking...
This is what i am criticizing here. I recjon that great steps on the right direction where made though.
Barzagli and Lucio are definate upgrades, than the Legro and Knezevic we were signing, but the pattern and the general strategy is still present and for once we would like to see it changing, just once in a decade, after stacking up so many CMs, for so many years, we should invest on the defence for a change...
