 :touched: I highly doubt it's going to happen anyway. We are having a hard time getting Jovetic, let alone targeting Cavani or Higuain. Who needs the CL anyway? It's not like we win it every year, and the last time we won it was only 16 years ago when some of you were still toddlers, and I was still in high school :sigh:
Wow I was just a little chap back then. :touched:

Exactly my point. We don't need to be wasting our time on that competition. We might get lucky and win it once every 20 years. Soon enough, Serie A teams will be like the Dutch/French teams in Europe. Happy to be there, but not quite good enough to win it. It's really frustrating, and depressing really. Juventus being in the CL just to compete, and put on a good show; not really in it to win it. Perhaps that might change in the future, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

You saw that after a season where a rather mediocre Chelsea won it with basically good teamwork and well drilled and motivated unit.

Its a daunting task to go far or win it, but its doable to compete in it. Must ingrediences are the need of a marquee attacker to carry a team, like Drogba was for Chelsea (aided by preferly experienced core group of players), rest are about getting to the play offs, relying on form and motivation, in knock out stages anything is possible.

True, but that's the exception, rather than the norm. It's usually the teams with better quality that tend to win these competitions. Heck, we even failed to win it in 97 and 98 when we were the best team, clearly superior to our opponents, and with far more quality (particularly in attack) than this current Juventus. I'd be tempted to say we'd go far if we had an attack comprising Jovetic and Cavani, but we all know that's not going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

With Bonnuci and Pepe acquitted we can focus back on the LWB and CF. Read some rumors saying we have placed a bid for Kolarov and Llorente.

His words were "We are trying but it is not easy, because Athletic Bilbao do not want to sell".

I think Beppe will find that is often the case with clubs and their best players :D

Marotta for once has to take a leaf out of Secco's book, for the top players (or even very good players), he has to overpay. Doing it on his terms aint going to get us anywhere in the CL.

A lot of us tend to dismiss Jack as being pessimistic about our mercato approach, but seeing the way weve played the market so far. Its becoming glaringly obvious that Marrotta cannot get his man, and a large part of the reason is wanting 'to buy on our terms'.

Assuming this Llorente situation didn't open up, and I would still consider him to be a compromise even if we bought him - what would we have done?! Again, we cant make judgments till 31st august. But with 20 days to go, and your DS is flying across the world to see a SuperCoppa game can only mean two things. A) He has something up his sleeve. B) Doesn't know what the he'll is going on.

I'm sure it will eventually come down to buying Armero on Udine's terms and not ours. And if we end up snapping up Llorente immediately, then it will be painfully obvious that we wouldn't have had a striker, save Pazzini by the end of this window because Marrotta was unable to close the deals he was interested in.

I am not pessimistic about our mercato, I am quite pleased with what has been done, I just don't like the way he operates and it is extremely bad when it comes to big names.

Which is what I'm referring to. Everything he has done so far is not going to make him anymore efficient at his job than he was before the market started because his priorities are all over the place. There's only so far your excuses can carry you. RVP was not an impossible target IMO, for example. If you want people to take juve seriously in europe again, then youre going to have to get a big name whose reputation carries the image of the team. RVP was one such player. Dzeko is not, but he will fit the profile in terms of our on field requirements, and for that matter would not be as hard to reach. Seeing how quickly we are reacting on the Llorente situation is making me wonder how little progress we made on any of our targets, with 20 days to go. It says a lot about the club's reputation and more importantly, the DS' negotiation skills. Which at this point seem to be severely lacking.

I don't know if an admission of interest in zllorente is to force Shitty and Arsenal on making some kind of move or taking a decision with Dzeko and RVP. Thats one option I can think of though I doubt Beppe is so smooth.

J83: I like Gio, but tbh I was expecting a high profile name, of the calibre that can carry an attack. Like the main man, go to guy, marquee signing. The MVP to complement the midfield MVP.
