What facts? Numbers? Stats?

Dude, even for Porto's fans it's debatable that he's their better CB. He's average, won't be better than what he's and he's being way too overrated thanks to AVB wonderfull season. At the moment he's better than Bonucci but that doesn't say much to me as he was playing in a well worked defense.

If you want a CB from Portugal take Daniel Carriço (played against us, Sporting's captain).
stats that porto did in europe and championship. I'm not saying he's a wc defender..i say that he's a good defender, an improvement over bonucci and had a far more better year than chiello.

Like many have said here, if we buy a CB then he should be someone who´s comfy with the ball. Long balls from our current CBs are doomed... It´s not just in defence but in general, our players cant keep the ball and slow the play down. Right now, theres only Marchisio and Pirlo who really can hold on to the ball. Dunno know about Vidal, havent seen him play too often?

If Conte wants Juve to have possession, then we need more.

All three of those players were better under Ranieri than any other Juventus coach.
Well, Molinaro didn't really play after Ranieri left, so leave him out. Dunno about Legro either, he pretty much kept his level individually imo. It's just that the organisation went missing & he ended up having to do more than what he's capable of.

True about Grygera.

Molinaro in the brief spell under Ranieri was horrible and that forced a loan to Stuttgart, IIRC. Legrottaglie in the 07/08 season was very good, year after he dropped but was still good. I don't think he ever reached the heights of the first season (back in Serie A) here.

Ferrara you mean, surely? :D

He was not considered a starter by him, Grosso took his place. If memory serves, he played only 4 or 5 games.

I agree that set up & organisation is vital, but:

Legro > Bonucci, so far.
Grygera back then > Motta (& arguably Sorensen as well)
Molinaro > Grosso

Edit: as for what we have now, it's still too early to tell.
i agree with this offcourse, because of a few obvious reasons

1)motta was pathetic and a serious hole in the defence. an unexpirienced sorensen out of position wasent much better tbh

2)grosso was another hole on the flank, really bad, and de ceglie back didnt fix much.

result : centrebacks constandly covering for fullbacks, creating gaps. chiellini with superior anticipation managed better then bonucci.

3) del neri unable to set up the defence and fix the crap. ranieri was king at it, and conte is known for it.

But, considering what we have now

4)Molinaro was the weak spot back then, ziegler is better. not much but he is.
5)Lichtsteiner is top 3 rightbacks in serie a, with a fantastic attitude, he is miles ahead of any defender we put there since thuram.

Conclusion : conte has better players for his backline then ranieri back then, and bonucci is entering his make or break year.

Bonucci is really not that bad. I don't know how Barzagli can start in front of him. Bonucci's only big weakness is 1 on 1 but he's pretty solid everywhere else. Plus, he doesn't whack the ball into the stands every time he gets it.

lets make a comparison then

montero

he was worldclass on short space, but bad when pulled out wide.

a good coach knows how to handle this, by making the defence tight, to maximise this.

i am very confident, that with out decent and fantastic fullbacks we got now, plus chiellini, bonucci will shine, and we will have one tough backline to crack.

once vidal joins the team, u'll see the conceded goals drop.

once we get the leftwinger and SS, you'll see the possession and goals scored, rise.

We need two wingers, its soo obvious that Conte doesn't want to see Pepe or Martinez playing in the wing when he decide to continue to play Marchisio there. And we are looking to offload either one them so we need two at least.
And in defense, based on the friendlies Conte doesn't seem to have decide that Bonucci will start next to Chiellini, therefore he will look at the options around. If he needs another defender he will get one.
Conte was known for his defensive organization, that was i read when Ranocchia was commenting on his appointment.

We had Balzaretti in Serie B and then first season in Serie A.. Why the f*ck did we let him go? He was playing really well. We had no reason to sell him. I forgot why?
