We need both quality and depth, hence why we should acquire both Hummels and a LB. Our defense still remains our weak point, and we are sorely lacking both in numbers and quality in that department. We should be proactive, instead of reactive. Inevitably we will need a new starting CB, and a new LB. Barzagli can be used in some league games, the Coppa, and perhaps some European outings, rotating with Chiellini and Hummels. I'm not a fan of Chiellini @ LB, and would rather he return back to being a beast @ CB. A new versatile LB, who can also be deployed as a RB in case of emergency (a Licht injury, or the need for Licht to be rested due to fatigue) would be ideal; however, we can buy a pure LB and pick up a cheap but reliable understudy to Licht @ RB (potentially use one of our youngsters if an opportunity arises).
CB's: Barzagli, Chiellini, Hummels
RB: Licht, ???
LB: Ansaldi, De Ceglie (Chiellini in extenuating circumstances)
Sell Motta, Grosso, Sorensen (since he doesn't seem likely to get a chance, so send him out on a loan or co-own type deal), and Bonucci.
Prevention is better than cure, and it's always better to be safe than sorry.

I don't think we can afford that Interdestroyer.
I'd be happy with Gio returning, Ramirez from Bologna, and Damiao from Internacional.

Sell Bonucci, Motta, Grosso in defense, and loan Sorensen.
For the midfield, promote Appelt, sign Montolivo (whether I like it or not it's going to happen), send Marrone out on loan, sell Elia (I don't think that by the end of this season he will figure in Conte's plans; just a projection though), Krasic (he looks the most likely to leave from our batch of wingers at this point), and potentially Pepe (if we get an offer of 12+ Million Euros we'd be stupid not to sell him). Keep Esti, Add Ramirez and Gio, and potentially Giac (depending on how he performs until the end of the season; if Conte is unconvinced by him come season's end, don't take up the option on him).
For the forward line, dispose of Amauri, Iaquinta, and Toni. Del Piero looks likely to move to the US, so that leaves us with a pretty think forward line of only Vucinic (who is mainly deployed as an attacking LW these days anyway), Quag, and Matri. None of these guys are reliable goalscorers (even Matri), which means we will need a Damiao or Jovetic if he can overcome his persistent injury problems.
Ideally, I'd love Benz for that striker role, and Ozil/Gotze/Hazard for the attacking RW slot, but we know that isn't going to happen.

We may not even need Hummels if Barza keeps this up and Hummels is way too expensive to be a bench warmer. As long as we get a good LB we won't need a CB, that is.
