Sarri did use him as a 9 for a decent stretch. But he had Higuain and Ronaldo that he had to use as well.

But nowadays we don't have a Higuain on the roster and Allegri also has the issue of Chiesa being a 4-3-3 player. So we could sign Milik to replace Morata and play 2 strikers. Then you have to put Chiesa in a 4 man midfield to accommodate that.

To me it makes even less sense to put Depay as the 9. Dybala behind him. And then Chiesa in the midfield 4. For sure, I think we would never do that.
If Sarri used him as a 9 for a good stretch than his goalscoring was pretty anemic that season. 17 goals in all comps? In 2910 minutes. As it was at Palermo as a CF when he scored 13 goals. If that’s the production we get out of Dybala the 9, we’re in a lot of trouble.

I think Dybala is at his best in more of a free role playing behind or off another 9 who takes attention away. His best production seasons here were beside Mandzukic or behind/beside Higuain. He seems to be far too easily marked out when playing as a lone CF. And I’d rather not see it. If our plan is 4-3-3 then I’d rather we let Dybala and Morty go and get a proper number 9.

It was these matches in June/July where it was usually CR7-Dybala-Bernardeschi or Cuadrado in a 4-3-3. About 4 goals, 2 assists in 8 matches. They're all on Youtube because of Dybala fanboys.

If you can support an 8 man defence and a big striker that passes to Dybala, then I would do that. But we're not going to do that. We're going to replace Morata with Milik and put Chiesa back in midfield. So in that scenario, I would just put Dybala at 9 and put Chiesa more in attack. :howler:

He had a good start to that period and then teams figured it out and he had 0 goals- 1 assist in 4 matches. Mostly against mediOcre sides. Not seeing anything special there.

Dybala as CF is not the solution and has never been imo. He’s too one-dimensional in the box, and when he’s the main focus of attention for the CBs he is too easy to shut down. Let him play beside or behind a proper CF who can occupy the CBs and actually physically compete with them and that gives Dybala the time to carve out his little bits of space and curl in those beautiful goals he is one of the best around at. No coincidence that all his most prolific goalscoring seasons happened beside Mandzukic and/or Higuain.

I’d rather sacrifice Dybala and his big wages to get a top young winger to put opposite Chiesa, then have Dybala be our 9. Sacrifice Morty and his wages too and even get someone like Cavani as a temporary measure until we can sign a top young striker again. Dybala leading our line is a no go for me. I don’t think it will work at all.

We are talking about saving the season and reaching top 4 with a January move. I don't know how our management thinks removing Morata and putting a different guy there solves anything. Yes, if we could then I would dump Dybala and sign a real 9 for a 4-3-3 as well. That seems like a hard undertaking reserved for later though.

I think my point is that I don’t see much improvement in our chances of saving the season by moving Dybala into the 9 position.

Diego Simeone does not want Atlético Madrid to do the Morata operation with Barcelona. The coach does not want to reinforce a direct rival in the league. (Gerard Romero)

Barcelona & Morata have an agreement, the ok from Atletico is the only thing missing right now, Juventus will not object the move and have enquired about luuk de jong. (Catalunya Radio)

For Morata, Atletico Madrid are asking FC Barcelona to take the Spanish player on loan until the end of the season + obligation to buy at approx. 35mln€. The blaugrana do not seem to accept these conditions. Ongoing talks.Juve are already searching for his replacement. (Di marzio)

Luuk de Jong, Auba, Milik, Depay, Icardi..

Damn, this is depressing....
Don't worry we will sign Scamacca.
