Sarri did use him as a 9 for a decent stretch. But he had Higuain and Ronaldo that he had to use as well.

But nowadays we don't have a Higuain on the roster and Allegri also has the issue of Chiesa being a 4-3-3 player. So we could sign Milik to replace Morata and play 2 strikers. Then you have to put Chiesa in a 4 man midfield to accommodate that.

To me it makes even less sense to put Depay as the 9. Dybala behind him. And then Chiesa in the midfield 4. For sure, I think we would never do that.

Let him play beside or behind a proper CF who can occupy the CBs and actually physically compete with them and that gives Dybala the time to carve out his little bits of space and curl in those beautiful goals he is one of the best around at. No coincidence that all his most prolific goalscoring seasons happened beside Mandzukic and/or Higuain.

I’d rather sacrifice Dybala and his big wages to get a top young winger to put opposite Chiesa, then have Dybala be our 9. Sacrifice Morty and his wages too and even get someone like Cavani as a temporary measure until we can sign a top young striker again. Dybala leading our line is a no go for me. I don’t think it will work at all.
