Exactly? You just said we don't use a winger formation. SO clearly we aren't going to play him wider. We have 4 much better midfielders, so clearly he isn't going to play as a B2B.

If we picked up Shaqiri, at least he has shown he can be a pretty good player as an AM for his national team.

What exactly has Pereyra shown? That he can be a half-decent winger? We don't use wing based formations.
I'm mentioned him as a CM, not behind the strikers. He has done well back in the 352 when he was asked to play centrally for the misfiring Vidal.

Except as a CM in place of Vidal, he offers nothing going forward, and now that Vidal is starting to regain form, there isn't really much of a need for him there, considering Pogba, Marchisio, Pirlo, Vidal are all much better. He'd be good as a bench player, the 5th CM, but do we really have 15m to spend on the 5th CM, when we have much more pressing needs?

misfiring Vidal? Vidal is doing better than pereyra this season though even when pereyra has been playing deeper in place of Vidal
Vidal is finally doing much better, I will give him that. But earlier in the season, especially when we were still using the 352 Vidal was absolutely horrible.

And Pereyra isn't mean to be a starter he is backup and when asked he hasn't made many mistakes certainly none leading to goals. For his position in the club he has done his job. Vidal is mean to be a starter and a difference maker, that's what he is paid for, and he wasn't that...not even close in the beginning of the season.

well that was to be expected as he was rushed into participating at the world cup following knee surgery
Then why are you debating if you acknowledge he wasn't great earlier in the season? That's my debate about Pereyra playing CM in Vidal's misfortunes earlier and doing well.

Would you have called him an 'average' signing if we signed him instead ?
This question?

Yes if we play a 4312 he wouldn't have added much. Perhaps more than Pereyra behind the strikers but certainly not what we would have paid for him. Giovinco could add more than Pereyra and not cost us anything until we find a genuine AMC.

I would put at least some blame on him for not closing in on De Guzman who assisted Higuain at the super cup, yes I know Vidal lost the ball, but it was pereyra's job to shut de guzman down which he had failed to do

What about Vidal's missed PK threatening our CL progress? :D
