Unfortunately in today's Serie A, Juve have to bargain hunt. Especially with Marotta, we're not going to see massive fees paid for marquee players. Honda*/Candreva while not ideal would be the best attacking midfielder in our squad which says a lot about the lack of depth. Let's be honest here, neither player are a first choice, but if Marotta had the opportunity to get Honda for cheap or Candreva for a reasonable price, his face would be more like:
Also to all those crapping on Candreva based off his ability, here's a reality check, it's not 1998**. We can't be picky. It's easy to fuss on Candreva based on price, which is very valid because Lolito will price him stupidly, but ability? He's not a world-beater, but he is still a good player, and one of the only standouts of the ugly 2014 WC squad. He easily would slot seamlessly in on our squad. And quite frankly, if I had a choice of paying 20MM for Candreva with some of the cash that we foolishly paid for Morata, I would.
That deal was idiotic due to the completely asymmetric return profile. It's all downside, and limited upside. In summary, 20MM for Candreva is a deal you have to do given Serie A's current situation. Any more than 20MM you say no, because Candreva is good, but not great.
And Mata? He'd at least cost 40 million EUR. United has no reason to sell him, and his performances have improved. He is also one of the best attacking mids in the world based on reputation.
* Honda: Once again, not my first choice, and I wouldn't aggressively pursue him but for a low enough fee I'd think about it. Plus I'd want to buy a Japanese player for marketing purposes.

This is the unfortunate situation when teams like Bayern, Dortmund, and United are growing revenues over the last 8 years by 8%-12%, and we're growing by 3% (which is better than any other Serie A teams btw) In this situation, you can't just pass on players because they're aren't the perfect fit. If you wait for the perfect fit, you won't buy anyone.
