If we're sticking with a back 4, why is it necessary to have 6 defenders for 2 spots? I know we have a few injuries now but surely stuff like this happen.

Chiellini
Bonucci
Barzagli
Caceres
Ogbonna

That is more than enough. Few teams in Europe have more than 4 non-youngster defenders. Signing a 6th one would be excessive, especially since we have nothing at AM which is a position we actually started using and LB.

Caceres would fill the RB spot rather than CB but he can drop in at CB in emergencies. instead we can get rid of ogbonna which has not fullfilled the expectations that we had and get schar and rugani
cb:

Chiellini
Bonucci
Barzagli (considering that he gets injured often we need at least 5 defenders)
Schar
Rugani

we were this summer with roma, samp and other clubs interested. We should look for a pure LB instead and have Rugani for the LCB spot and a guy like Schär for RCB.
who?

We have no one for cb.

Old first team players, and some youth that has everything to prove.

Doesnt hurt to get several talents, to make sure the chance of one getting trough is bigger
i agree with this. we dont have enough room for all though. so the problem is, who we would loan out and where (to get enough playing time)

i wanted Murru here last season because i thought we can get him for free and more importantly, he was playing for Cagliari regularly at such a young age + hes italian. now i never even see him play. considering how other young players of his age developed, became among the better performers on their positions in the league and came close to the NT and then looking at the "progress" Murru made i think its safe to asume that he isnt anything special. and he renewed so there is no point in wasting time on him...

Few teams have done as well defensively (domestically) as we have over the last 3.5 season, too.

That's why. Juve was always built on a mountain of defensive warriors which is why teams always found it so difficult to break us down.

however we have seen that he has potential so its best to get hold of him now and try to develop him into what we want

My only concern for the long run is the aging, lack of true impact players for the future. I like Barzagli, but he is 33. He should be sold. Caceres is in his prime, but isn't that great. We need a guy who can slot beside Chiellini over the next couple of years, especially if Rugani isn't ready.

Call me crazy, but if Ranocchia could be had for cheap, I'd buy him. He has had several bright spots this year, especially with the Azzurri but is still inconsistent. I chalk some of that up to the fact that Inter has been a disaster for the majority of his senior career. I'd pair him with Chiellini and see how he fairs. Maybe playing on a team like Juve could help him take that step.

I'd suggest a more established player, but let's be real here. We're not going to spend $20 million on a defender. If we could even swap Ogbonna for Ranocchia I'd do it.

It's pretty depressing that in order to find a good Italian central defender it involves scouring through scraps. What happened to calcio? We used to have too many, where some of the better ones wouldn't get called up because of the depth. We need some of this back: http://andrzejpavlov.hubpages.com/hub/15-Best-Italian-Soccer-Defenders-of-All-Time

We can't sell Barzagli. Considering his age and long term injury I don't belive there'd be many suitors for him. Anyway I hope he recovers well, hope he won't become another Pepe on our hands, but I think his best days are behind him and we'll need to look at potential replacements.

lets hope youre wrong and that he still has 1-2 seasons at top level left in him. anyway, if we sell Ogbonna we are a defender short. considering that names like Balanta and Schar are popping up lately i doubt we'll bring Rugani back in the summer. so its likely he'll be loaned out again

When players get to a certain age you cannot sell them. Their price on the market doesn't trully represent what they offer on the pitch. Therefore players like Barzagli or Pirlo can only be released once we deem them as a surplus.

Still don't see the need for a new CB in January. Caceres will be back soon and like it or not he has been great before his injury and is more than good reserve as CB. He's not a RB, that is Romulo's job.
And since we're bringing back Rugani next summer, signing a guy in January is too much, unless that guy is Rugani.
