personally i like Vista so far... I have run several of the builds that have been available for download with very little problems...

As for wm11... Not ideal for my requirements but works very well and is fast on my pc...

IE7 ? I'd take it over firefox anyday...

    this pc is nothing special... Its an abit an8 fatality, with an athlon 64 3500, 2gb of ram (kingston), two asus n6600 graphics cards

    That's just a bit above the average consumer PC.. I have a laptop that's Pentium-M 1.6 with 512MB ram and I doubt Vista would run well on this. I'd try it but I'm not going to wipe out my system just to check it out. I could, I do full system backups, but it's too much hassle just to see what Vista looks like.

    Yes, but at the moment it isnt meant for the average consumer... By the time its eventually released the specs it needs to run smoothly will be average

    Even then if you remove the silly sidebar that for somereason eats resources... it'd probably work ok

    of course.. but Vista's core market will be pre installed on new pc's... no one is gonna be silly enough to sell pc's with vista on that arent capable of running it....

    People who upgrade without taking notice of the required specs are fools and deserve what they get

    No, that's obviously the case. I'm just saying there is a large installed base out there on hardware that probably (from what various sources have reported) won't run Vista. And so this will leave people with a dilemma, to upgrade or not upgrade. If they buy new hardware and Vista with it, that's a pretty big expense. On the other hand, with XP, they will gradually be phased out, as MS stops supporting it, as new software won't run on XP anymore and so on.

    Of course, this is not new, it's happened lots of times in the past. Just that the computer market has changed somewhat, Moore's law is dead and since 2001 people have run XP without having to go through an upgrade cycle. So now the hardware vendors are probably gearing up for what will be the sale period of the decade or so.

    Thats jus natural progression... You cant expect (or in reality want) vista (or any new platform) to work with older systems and still be able to deal with the soft/hard ware of today and those to come in say, the next five years...Its ridiculous to say the least

    Well, it's the Windows progression, it's always been like that. Aside from the financial side of it, it's a good thing, because it will leave people with better hardware that can be taken advantage of buy software vendors, which again opens up new possibilities in software. For instance, on the linux platform, with today's hardware, it's no problem to run several light background tasks (like continuous full system indexing for fast searching). This feature is a bit experimental still, but will probably be a default thing in 6 months.

    you say its the windows progression... What about the games manufacturers that make my hardware obsolete with every new release.... Its the way of the world... not a windows thing....


    As for linux.. I have no real comment on it... At the end of the day... the programs i need to regularly use, dont run on it...

    Gaming is one thing, that's just a slice of the market. A lot of home users don't play games and don't replace components every year to run the newest offerings at the highest frame rates. I don't think what gamers are doing has much of an effect on the rest of the users, though obviously it's pushing hardware development.

    I disagree... You talk to anyone who has kids... Every computer user with children suffers at the hands of game makers as their kids need the latest version of games...

    Its not jus about gamers running high frame rates either... You look to when half life 2 was released... Every young boy wanted that... On release it was slow as hell on about 80% of home computers...

    Despite the gamers and video cards,
    a better hardware also helps in decoding/editing files etc etc much faster, for the professionals,
    most companies now have 3GB processor and a GB RAM just for office applications!


    Back on vista, IE 7 is supposed to be a great step forward, esp the tab thing,
    (though still cant compete with firefox 2 IMO)

    WMP 11 hasnt got any better quality than WMP 10, it has more useless adds
    and its really slower in a pc not as special as Paul's,
    still better than the older winamp versions though, IMO again
    (note that i dont have real surround just 3.1, but the diference is obvius in my system in terms of sound quality/clarity)

    The transperacies{spell} are very impressive to watch and give the futurisc{spell} high tech feel.

    The sidebar is there to help, but its just annoying.


    The best thing VISTA will offer to the world is called direct X 10,
    the upgrades and all are rooting from here, the new era of effects,
    smth that the today hardware cant handle, the need for the system's upgrade...
