Oh right. Haven't a clue to be honest - I'm not a Dickens fan at all. Someone passed me the quote in English, I liked it, translated it and put it in my signature.

It's so easy to appear well-educated when you're really not!
I know. The only reason I know it is because one of my hobbies is numismatism....coin collecting. I've a collection of Morgan's, Peace, Ike's, Susan B's, etc and that quote comes up now and again when people describe the power and importance of the Dollar.

A coin collection? Really? I have some coins from countries I went to but nothing special.

It's just a silly hobby I got into years ago when looking for something to invest in....it was a bum steer I'm afraid but I ended up with an interest in the subject and can't seem to get rid of it.

Maybe it's time to cash in and buy shares in a Belgium Beer Company:eek:

Thank you for showing me the light Erik:cheesy:

And I collected them, but rather all coins made for special occasions in Poland.
The oldest coin I have was made in 1863 year and it was made for this part of Poland that was under Russia's annexation so with such tsar's eagle on it.

That's fantastic Ally.
Do you have a scan of it?
I'd love to see it.

The oldest I have is one of Philip of Macedonia (Father of Alexander the Great) and I really enjoy holding something in my hand which is approximately 2500 years old and wondering who made it, who used it, and what was it used to buy? (in case your wondering it's only worth about 50 euros so it's not unique or anything like that)

No, I don't have scan but I can try to scan it.

Philip of Macedonia and 2500 years old? That's great!
And I was soo proud of my 1863 year old coin but I see it's nothing comparing to your coins :sigh:
So you are such real collector then :)
Do you have your fav coin in collection? Or sth uniqe?

I know this feeling: who used it etc: I've got few more coins, and they were used by people, but only old Polish coins.

Do you have scan of this 2500 year old coin?

This is our big controversy, the bell tower. It was really expensive, it's not very nice to look at, and the sounds of the bells don't travel anywhere near as far as they're meant to. they sound nice close up, though.

Perth has a little island, Rottnest Island, off it's coast. It's called Rottnest because when the first explorers found it (Dutch I think), it was covered with these cute little guys, who they thought were giant rats, and they called it Rat's Nest Island :D The little guys are quokkas and they're actually like little wallabies. As far as I know, Rottnest is the only place in the world where you can still find them.

The age is no big deal Ally. I just wish they were rare but they are not.
Many Roman , Greek coins, etc are very inexpensive.
I do have a fav coin but I think this one is appropriate.
It represents peace.

Also, your coin means more to you because it relates to somthing you can identify with. Polish history is fascinating and you are justifiably proud of it.

I'll post a scan of my coin when I can as my collection isn't kept at home unfortunately

See ya Ally

Yes indeed, this is very appropriate coin in this moment.
I like your words about Poland, thank you :)
I collect them cause of this reason: what coins we have over here.
And I will wait for this scan of your fav coin.

See you :)
