We could say the exact same thing about Del Piero too IMO.

That defender in 1997, nobody even remembers that dude anymore... where is he now? Nowhere...

Del Piero's best year was 1998 (this belongs in the DP thread actually). He had it all, but he failed to deliver in the CL final and had a bad WC. Meanwhile, Zidane... so that one is no mystery.

Wasnt Raul's best year, the year when Real won the CL in 2000? iirc he was phenomenal in that year.
RM also won the league (Raul top scorer) and reached the CL semi final (Bayern) in 2001, already on the back of a CL victory in 2000. I think that was his best year and that's when he got 2nd place for the big award.

For a player like Raul you can only count the odd years. Whenever there's a World Cup or Euro that invariably has a major impact on the Golden Ball, and since Raul is Spanish, he was doomed on those occasions. :D

Its not like he was entirely faultless there though, i still remember how he choked and missed his penalty against France in 2000.

Yes, but it is Spain we're talking about. If anything, it speaks for Raul that they made it as far as they did in 2000, remember they only qualified from the group stage by a hair.

Matthias Sammer. He retired, so yes obviously as a player he is nowhere.

I wasn't, my young friend. If you had been here earlier (circa 2001) you would have known I started the original and famous ;) 'Totti Non-Fanclub'. I've never liked the guy and we used to enjoy poking fun at him back in the days. He's an arrogant bastard, not a terribly nice guy and just overall not too bright and annoying.

Which is why I was so surprised at this latest interview.
Totti has changed a lot over the years. While he's still an attention whore and needs to stress every now and then that he won't play for the NT anymore, he's not that much of an ass these days. He was also spot on about Inter without turning into a drama queen.

This is more the old Totti :D

"Sono un attaccante altruista e completo, mi manca solo il colpo di testa. Ma ho fatto più di 200 gol, e se c’è ancora qualcuno che mi critica non capisce niente di calcio."
"I'm an altruistic and complete forward, I only lack in headers. But I've scored over 200 goals, and those still criticizing me don't know the first thing about football."

    :touched:

Totti is great. One of my absolute favourite players. But I agree with you all that he used to have a really shitty attitude :D

Seems he has started to mature, ever since he became a father.

    FORZA TOTTI!

    That clears it up:D

What raised the possiblity of Sarcasm in my mind was his comment about Zlatan.I always thought you were someone who never rated Zlatan as a player..so Totti saying that he's a great player, and then your post saying that you agree with everything...you know. That caused a doubt in my mind.

Well, it's a weird thing with Zlatan. I like him a lot more now that he's at Inter and I'm pleased that he's making it. It's kind of like you kind of like someone, but from a distance. Like that guy you talk to once in a while and you have a few laughs, but if you had to be his neighbor it would drive you crazy, know what I mean? That's Zlatan to me. :D

And yes, some of the performances have been really impressive and I think he is great, but not a guy I want on my team. When he's great he's great, but when he's not I don't like his style all that much.
