I’ve been comparing a lot over the course of this year. Scraped Q5 and X5 off the list, the overall costs are too high for me and the Evoque idea got deleted after feedback of this great community. At a certain point it was between X1 and X3, where the X1 would easily win financially. Today out of the blue I had a chat with a car seller and I learned that a Jeep Compass is within my price range, never even thought about it. Any experiences here with Jeep?
As things stand now, I should be able to change car within 6 months.

I had a Jeep and it was alright overall but there was always something wrong with it.
does it matter though
a friend living in belgium got herself an x1 brand new, leased car through his work benefits. she liked it overall, but brakes failed them on a croatian island and it also had electronic issues. and it was a brand new car under warranty.
(swapped it for an also brand new audi q1. dash blacked out after a few corners she picked it up lol. then it of course worked when she was back at the shop. had to take a video so that the audi people believe her. car was not even one year old when the battery died right when we visited them, i had to jumpstart it because there's no electric plug in the garage they are renting and the husband's merc c coupé allegedly has its battery hidden under the back seats lol)
i'd only buy any of the german premium brands with some warranty left on them. or very cheap, without turbo, complicated electronics and quirks. bmw n47d20 and n57d30 engines can burn out the whole car, their egr cooler was badly constructed, it's a well documented issue with them, so i'd make sure they were fixed. bmw acknowledged the issue and ran a service campaign for these cars, so the faulty egr cooler is replaced for some of them.

is it new or used? will you keep it a long time? do you have a dealer near u to take for warranty work?
the only jeeps that are reliable are the grand cherokee WK body style and the wranglers.
everything else is somewhat questionable reliability. if new not an issue cuz thats what warranty is for, but if used make sure u get the warranty. just be prepared
if i were u i'd cross shop the jeep with the hyundai kona and mazda mx3. both are better interior and more reliable from what i have read. i think they both aroound price of compass depending on trim level
Obviously Skoda aren't the cars you dream of as a kid, but I had a Skoda Fabio for 7 years and for the money it was absolutely fantastic.

German cars are not reliable. In fact they are among the most likely to leave you stranded. Usually it's something to do with the electronics, simply because they have so much fancy tech. BMW's are so boring. Everyone drives them.
The Jeep doesn't seem to be a great car though. Honestly the only Jeep I'd buy is the Wrangler and the entertainment value is worth half its price.

If he's looking at Jeep, the Mazda CX5 or even CX60 would make more sense.
