Ireland.

Something I'm not afraid to get dirty or cause damage to.

Thinking a classic Mitsubishi Pajero from the 90s, a Jeep Cherokee or a Freelander 2.
i'd say forget the freelander, that was an unreliable shit car when new, imagine it at the age of 20+

cherokee is fun, especially with a v8. an ex colleague has it, runs it on gas instead of petrol, so the per km costs aren't too bad for her. she occasionally carries her horses with a special horse transporter, car can handle it with ease.

btw my pick would be one of landcruiser, pajero, patrol. those are build to last. rav4 or xtrail if you're fine with the smaller size. rust is their only enemy. a big % of 4x4's in egypt are landcruisers, that's telling too.

The Freelanders 2 is a lot more reliable and better than the first addition but I agree with it still being a Land Rover it's probably best to avoid. I bought a Range Rover Evoque 3 years ago and it was the most unreliable thing ive ever owned. Nightmare.

Land cruisers are also very popular here but are really over priced because everyone wants one. Even for one with near 200k miles nearly 20 years old you'd be paying good money. Which also does imply that they are built to last if the still hold their value.

I’m saving for a SUV, will be a BMW X3, X5, Audi Q5, or a Range Rover Evoque. Don’t have an outspoken preference, haven’t done the maths with all the costs yet, but should be able to reach those cars (occasion) somewhere next year I hope. The dream would be a Porsche Cayenne but that’s out of my league as things stand now.
