What's the weather like up there? I read quite similar to generic UK with the rain and fairly mild winters but bit warmer in summer?

3 out of 4 seasons are good/great. Winter does suck.
Summer is incredible other than a week or two where the temperature goes into the 90s or even 100. It’s really bright and sunny for the most part.
Early fall is awesome- some of the best fall colors I’ve ever seen, but by late fall it starts getting really overcast.
Spring has some nice days, but can also be overcast.
Winter is really dark and gloomy- I got seasonal depression for my first couple of winters. But eventually you learn to embrace it.
We do get a lot more sunshine compared to the UK. Portland gets 2300 hours (slightly less than Naples or Rome) of sunshine a year, Seattle gets 2100 hours. London and Dublin get around 1600 and 1400 hours respectively.

I am self-taught in IT, I teach myself at home, YouTube is generally the best source for learning and is full of Indians producing a lot of tutorials, except for the accent which is a bit difficult to understand, the quality of the content is top notch. I have gained great info and knowledge from Indians on youtube.
You know what's worse? Working with Indians.
I have noticed infighting within each other tho, can be funny.
I work(ed) with dozens of them over the past three years. I have mixed feelings. They seem very friendly and are very cool to hang out with. However, when it comes to work, I can't say I'm a fan. Quite often they are stabbing in the back while it's hard to have their trust. They are very political and friendly but they like doing things in their own way despite guidelines (and they fuck up most of the time). Our top management didn't seem reliable as well since they had some hidden projects so they were accused of money theft and stealing database as well. We also had issues with odor of some lol, it was really hard to deal with that. They give high importance to their education and from what I've seen they only shine in Excel. They are obsessed with numbers but quite often don't see the bigger picture/long term goals. I have not seen much depth, though.

I've noticed that in team settings, they really struggle to admit when they don't know something, or owning up to a mistake. I've sat in Post Incident Review meetings where they refuse to just put their hands up and admit they fucked up. It's ok to fuck up, we all make mistakes, just own it.

- Do the needful
- Kindly revert
- Prepone the meeting

Guy I work with now doesn't have great spoken English but he always sends these very eloquent emails using archaic terms. I noticed when he shared his screen the other day that he had ChatGPT on tab, which probably explains that. What a world we live in. I get on with him fine but some of the women at the same grade or above find that he overtly challenges them and doesn't like to take instructions or advice from them, but that's another cultural thing I think.
