I don't mind the dry heat like in Palm Springs or Phoenix, and those places are actually really cool. But I couldn't live in Nevada and nowhereland Oregon. Even if I like Pinot Noir's.

In July and August it’s typical to have a few 100 degree days but it’s been like this since early june.

I like some Willamette Valley pinots.

But my jam is the petrichor of Russian River Valley pinots.

Probably yes but I will miss being around an immense supply of art, music and old buildings and where art is something that the broad public enjoys rather than only annoying presumptuous people. In Lisbon you've learned to appreciate that I'm sure. Manuelino GOAT architecture style.

You're from Arizona? That's America's furnace, right? 48°C is mental. I have never experienced anything even close to that. 37°C was the absolute top (98°F).

Yes! Honestly, I love them all. And I agree, I really do like the Russian River Valley pinots. I'd probably say it's my favorite wine since I can drink it all day and all night, and goes well with a bunch of different foods. Any favorites vineyards you can name?

Phoenix got to almost 120 this year. That’s too much for me.

I was in Palm Springs recently and it reached 108. Honestly, it wasn't as bad as 95 and a dew point of 70 in the Mid-Atlantic, which it can get at times. Sort of feels like it today. But yeah, 120 is crazy.

* Anthill Farms (these guys were a steal for their quality level)
* Kosta Browne (yeah, expensive but good)
* Kutch
* Littorai
* RAEN
* Sea Smoke
* Sojourn Cellars
* Soliste
* Wayfarer
* Williams Selyem (people stuck their noses up when they got big, but the quality is there)

I like Luís Pato a lot.

In fact, as a pinot lover, I’d say my biggest Portugal wine discovery since moving here are how great the Bairrada wines are. You never saw them in the US. They just aren’t exported.

I haven't visited any of the vineyards there but definitely plan to in the next couple years. So right now I can only rely on what I can get from Total Wine or at the restaurants. I need to save your list.

That list was assembled from a lot of tasting. A few have open tastings. Some require an appointment. Others just don’t have tastings. All are wines I bought through either memberships or mailing lists (mostly the latter). Direct to Consumer works well for boutique wineries if you know what you’re looking for.

But sometimes their wines can end up in specialist retail places because they get on their mailing lists for demand sometimes.

For some reason I always pictured Upstate New York as supremely comfy, especially in fall. Always Indian Summer comes to mind but I dunno if it's actually that pronounced over there. Hiking, fishing, weekends in lake cabins. Slow and comfortable. Stuff like that.
