you could start a board game group. There’s so many cool ones and they come out with better games every year. Or maybe poker. Pool. Shit like that.

have you decided to go straight edge or do you just not want to drink all the time?
Honestly, all those sound like things that go hand in hand with drinking, especially pool and poker. But yeah, not bad ideas, if you have friends who don't drink.

Haven't decided anything. Just read a book about sleep and how much even one night of bad sleep fucks you up (mentally, physically and emotionally). And apparently even one beer or half a glass of wine will mess up your sleep, even though you may think you've had a good sleep cuz you were knocked out cold.

So I was just wondering to myself, if I were to reduce how often I drink, what would I do instead? Not trying to quit or anything lol.

That’s a good point.

I wonder how much better I’d feel if I got a proper sleep every night, a glass of wine, beer, or liquor is pretty standard for me

"...alcohol dismantles an individual’s sleep in an additional two ways.

First, alcohol fragments sleep, littering the night with brief awakenings. Alcohol-infused sleep is therefore not continuous and, as a result, not restorative. Unfortunately, most of these nighttime awakenings go unnoticed by the sleeper since they don’t remember them. Individuals therefore fail to link alcohol consumption the night before with feelings of next-day exhaustion caused by the undetected sleep disruption sandwiched in between. Keep an eye out for that coincidental relationship in yourself and/or others.

Second, alcohol is one of the most powerful suppressors of REM sleep that we know of. When the body metabolizes alcohol it produces by-product chemicals called aldehydes and ketones. The aldehydes in particular will block the brain’s ability to generate REM sleep. It’s rather like the cerebral version of cardiac arrest, preventing the pulsating beat of brainwaves that otherwise power dream sleep. People consuming even moderate amounts of alcohol in the afternoon and/or evening are thus depriving themselves of dream sleep."

this. you could become obsessed with fitness and health to the point that you are unbearable to talk too.

that seems like something sober ppl do.
Crossfit in public, cross-dress in private.

I'm most weary of people who don't drink. Those are the most fucked up people with the most to hide.
I applaud their resistance to social conventions forced upon us all. But it's more often a question of overcompensation for something.

no recreational drinking cannot be replaced by just anything. most activities wont cut it.

especially when a lot of the activities are more fun when paired with drinking
I don't know about MOST. Drinking is usually paired with something else, as you said. Usually it's just simply socializing, which you can still do without drinking just fine. "More fun" is subjective, I don't see it as that way for example the majority of the time.

I guess it also comes down to where you live too. I could see it being more difficult in a suburb, meanwhile I can leave my house and walk in any direction and find something to do.

I drink maybe like 6 times a year if even that. I just don't find it all that fun, not really that much more to it. Also it gets expensive real quick around here. House parties are fun but FUCK spending $40 just to get into, for example, an uncomfortable 230 Fifth because it's someone's birthday, regardless of how good their Moscow mules are.
