Dan Smith decided it was a poor vacation.

If you are going to be a complete wanker and make jokes about a horrific tragedy then at the very least they should be funny.

I just read that a poor father carrying his baby into the sea lost sight of his older son only to hear his screams. He didn't make it. Visibility was nearly zero. Highways covered with burnt out cars and people who have been burnt alive in them. A group of victims found on a cliff edge with parents still embracing their children.

If I'm being honest here, I have zero sympathy for people who die in natural disasters.

You either have days or hours, hell, sometimes weeks, to prepare. The only ones which you really don't are tornados or earthquakes, which, realistically, there is an assumed risk these things happen as there are areas more geographically notorious for them. Don't live on a fucking fault line in Japan and cry when your Playstation is swallowed by the ground.

If you don't like the risk, move. It's all chance, it's all risk. Don't want to die in a hurricane, move to Michigan, don't want to die in a wildfire, get out of California. It's that simple. Also, don't reply back with "they can't" and cite some bullshit about needing money to move, is your life worth your house? Cubans make it to Miami every year on doors and rafts made out of Dasani bottles.

Sure, if you see on tv there is monster hurricane coming and refuse to leave then no sympathy but saying that people should just live somewhere totally safe or they deserve to die? How much of earth does that leave?

There are risks in all sorts of places. Temperature, poisonous animals, non whites etc.

Because you happen to draw a short stick and be the one in a million who is killed by a known yet largely benign risk doesn't mean you deserve to die.

To be fair I can kind of sort of maybe understand where he's coming from if you live in the US. Though I suspect a lot of the people who live in New Orleans don't have the money to pack up and leave for New York, I guess you could say they could relocate to other cheaper places within the US.

But what about someone who lives in Bangladesh? That's a country that is very vulnerable to floods and you can't just move from there, not only because you don't have the money, but also because most other countries will simply send you back.

Which daily activity doesn't assume many risks of sudden death? Your lack of sympathy is more to do with proximity than reason of death, sympathy, real sympathy, is exhaustible.
