The reason behind the 'aspartame causes cancer', is ridiculously hilarious.
Rats in nature have a certain lifespan. If you put them in labs, they grow 2-3 times as old, but once they are around twice their regular lifespan, they are quite susceptible to develop cancer. (compare it with alzheimers beeing an issue from the point people lived longer then 60).
Some study years and years ago, compared rats injected with insane dose of aspartane, to a reference population......However, the aspartane population where all old rats, the reference population where mostly younger/regular rats.
A few of the elder rats of the aspartane population developped a cancer.
FDA looked into it, trashed the research, went over tons of similar research and concluded there is absolutely no health risk involved with aspartane, and that its their most research substance on their additive list.
No one knows that the study was bullshit and trashed. Everybody remembers the false conclusion of a fraud research

Isn't that zero crap just as bad as the normal stuff?
Like it doesn't contain sugar itself, but makes your body wanna eat something sweet? Then you go and eat 3 chocolate bars.

Anyways, the long term effect of artificial sweeteners is still something that is up in the air. But in the short term, they are a good replacement for sugar for people looking to lose weight, keep their diet in check or people with diabetes.

I think it's a more likely scenario that one might be drinking 4 diet cokes instead of 4 regular cokes, which is a great thing to do.
It tastes much better than regular coke or pepsi imo

That's the crucial bit I believe. There's an hypothesis that the opposite is true. Because people drink diet soda, they assume they're being healthy and eat a Snickers bar.
Also, all American sodas are horrible, because none of them have actual sugar in them, but HFCS. And the difference in taste is tremendous in my experience. I actually first learned this because I looked up what the fuck was wrong with American coke
