Pynchon character I identify with most though, is Webb Traverse from Against the Day. Damn, I need to read that again too.

He was, it's kind of a pejorative for russians since the mongols ruled over them :p
I see, I see. Makes sense now. Apparently I'm a bit slow in the uptake. :D

I can't believe how retarded interviews are. So many stupid ass shit questions it's crazy... wtf has this world come to
I can't believe how retarded some jobs are. The bank and insurance sectors are automating and effectively destroying jobs at a rapid pace in Belgium. I'm not talking one bank, one insurance company, I'm talking an entire industry.

Now I understand the world has changed in the past 20 years. But has it really changed that much in the past five for entire industries to be able to cut their payrolls in half? I'd say these people have been doing bullshit jobs for at least 5 years.

As an engineer, I'm not too concerned about the day we automate everything but I'd miss shooting the shit with coworkers

I wonder what these people are going to do though.

We are talking people who have high school degrees, often have college degrees too, but are not doing particularly skilled jobs and are not highly sought after. Mostly they've been doing some sort of administrative job, which is now going to disappear. They're also used to quite decent wages and a lot of them have not worked particularly hard in the past (compared to for example to blue collar jobs or medical staff) so they won't just accept any job.

Maybe this is when it starts.

It's to see if you can play the game
That's just a no-no. There's no way you can judge that based on a 20 minute interview. I don't even care if I get this job or not, I'm not saying this because I think I sucked. It's just crazy how you're willing to make a whole picture based on a short-term interview while asking stupid question too. Dude, I want to work. I have a higher degree than asked, I have experience and I'm not a (social) retard. What more do you want, doing NASA tests? It's just :sergio: some jobs might justify the given rape but seeing how you need to pass 15 crap for a shitty job? It makes absolutely zero sense. And I can bet my ass that companies lost many amazing candidates because they ask for too much for no reason.

Maybe. But new technologies appear every day literally. New softwares are being developed each day. It wasn't a BS job, it was a job that was needed to be done manually while nowadays it's all getting automated. And I don't even think it's a great thing or something to be happy about. Maybe it is but only for directors/managers. But it's like people don't realize that machines are getting their job, they are becoming pretty much useless. I've seen some news the other day, they say somewhere in Asia they are getting Taxi cars without drivers. It's like the movies from 90s. Sure, it might sound fun, but it's like nobody realize million of pepole are gonna get fired. Majorty of those are old people who lost the track with the updated things, majority of those will have a trouble finding a job.
