No shit.
I don't get why all these new supposedly super-healthy diets keep popping up anyways. I mean it's been pretty clear what constitutes as healthy and promotes longevity for decades, just eat lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grain stuff, fish, etc. and you'll be good. It's much easier than some Paleo/no gluten BS as well.
I think it's because:
a) Food choices have become a way for people to express their individuality or personal identity in today's society
b) Food choices give the illusion of additional personal control against fear of death and disease
c) A balanced diet and exercise is too interdependent and complex for people to get their head around, so it's easier to seek out silver-bullet, overly simplistic solutions (like "eat only açai berries and end your cancer risk")
d) Humans throughout history have proven time and time again they are suckers for some oracle with a brilliant yet overly simplistic insight
e) Said insight is often packaged as a "foreign secret" from faraway cultures -- that First World science clearly must have overlooked -- and enables "enlightened" individuals to feel they can outsmart basic science/their fate (see: yak butter in coffee, quinoa, açai berries, kohlrabi, teff, wheat grass, etc.)

Good timing.
