25 / Male / where satan left his children

So I feel bad that I am not where I want to be in life. I am currently presented with an opportunity to right the wrongs of the past. I cannot help but feel scared that I will make the same kind of mistakes. I really want to man up. Can anyone relate? Does it end up well? What mind set should help me going forward? I do not know anyone in Juventuz personally so I feel comfortable opening up. Feel free to let me know what you think if you have been in a similar situation. :D

Should companies called Isis rebrand?

From kebab shops to beauty salons, hundreds of high street businesses share an unfortunate name with the Islamic terrorist group

Normally home counties chartered surveyors need not worry too much about terrorist organisations in the Middle East affecting business. But in recent weeks, David Bennett, director of Hampshire-based Isis Surveyors Ltd, admits he has been paying particular attention to the news.

One of hundreds of British businesses to share a name with the terrorist group Islamic State, otherwise known as Isis, Bennett says he is starting to have concerns over the entirely coincidental and unwanted association.

“The first time I heard the name Isis on the news my ears did prick up,” he says. “Obviously it's nothing to do with us but there is a worry we could be affected. I checked the internet this morning to see how much reaction there has been. It (changing the name) is something we are still considering.”

Others have already moved to expunge their former names as a reaction to the Islamic State terrorist group’s appalling actions in Syria and Iraq. Today British finance company Isis Equity Partners, which has offices in London, Manchester and Birmingham, issued a statement saying it is changing its name because it is “no longer prepared to share it with a terrorist organisation”. The new company moniker will be announced in a few weeks. Isis Wallet, a mobile wallet app, has also decided to rebrand to Softcard.

But despite the horror it provokes, the name Isis remains a common sight on Britain’s high streets: adorning beauty salons from Greenford to Carlisle, to kebab shops - to even the Isis String Quartet.

Many have chosen it because of the association with the eponymous Ancient Egyptian goddess, renowned for her beauty and skill as a spiritual healer. Its historical affiliations prompted Lord Fellowes to name the Earl of Grantham’s beloved yellow Labrador in Downton Abbey, Isis, as a nod to the series setting, Highclere Castle, and its links to Ancient Egypt. Former owner of the estate, the fifth earl of Carnarvon, famously died in Cairo after discovering the tomb of Tutankhamun.

The name is particularly common among the dreaming spires of Oxford, where the River Thames upstream of Iffley Lock is known as “The Isis”, as is the reserve boat of the University’s famous rowing club. When contacted by the Telegraph, the club insisted there are no plans whatsoever to make any change.

The defiant stance taken by Oxford University's rowing club is shared by many. Such is the ubiquity of the name Isis around Britain that erasing it will be no mean feat. Nor do many feel they should.

“We’ve had the name for years,” says April Blunt, a 17-year-old hairdresser at Isis Hair for Men and Women in Blackpool. “I don’t watch the news but obviously know about Isis. That said, none of our customers have even mentioned it to us, yet.”

Tom Van Der Ploge, proprietor of Isis Upholstery in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, agrees.“I have been called Isis for 20-odd years and I am not going to change my name now,” he says. “People have always known me as that - it is my brand.”

What a silly thing to say. there is ofcourse in the real world, for alot of bussinesses. Dont let the dumb slogan for attentionwhoring celebs, politicians or wannabes fool you.

Two quick examples out of top of my head. That restuarant that recently went out of bussiness in the US because they refused to cateer to a gay wedding. First they got "rallying cry" support due to blacklash, but later on, ultimately the bad publicity killed their bussiness utterly due to bad press/boycott. Also same with some cafe owner who directly told a job applicant he doesnt want to hire him because his white customers dont want their coffe served by someone black. His staff walked off, and his costumers did too, boycotted til he shut down his bussiness. Bad publicity can fuck you royally.
