Never seen it as a touristic attraction and also mainly due t my own ignorance about the country itself.

I think we misunderstand each other here. I don't think all of India is unsafe. But I like to travel and explore a country. Preferably with my own means of transportation. I think India is ill suited for me to do so as a tourist.

That much is true. India is a pretty horrendous place if you want to drive yourself. Fortunately you can hire a dude to drive you around all day, sleeps in the car at night, and speaks a little English for about the cost of a rental car.

What about Thailand? You'd be down?
