You don't? Then why is Albert Speer building stadiums in Qatar using slaves?
I don't think that has anything to do with forgetting WW2. There will always be some dickhead taking advantage of people.
Dubai, Qatar, disgusting places.

I wen't to Dubai, stopover, was awful.

My point is that no one is pointing out how outrageous that really is. We just accept it. Pretty much everyone has already forgotten who Albert Speer was. Or Rudolf Hess. Or Hermann Göring.

Slavery in Dubai and countries like that is absolutely atrocious, I agree it is completely wrong that it is not morally condemned by all nations. But then again, most nations either have a vested interest or don't want to piss off the wrong people.

it's human nature, be it the evil of those men or the forgetting

and i am of the opinion the forgetting does more good than bad

woah woah woah :p
My point was the slavery aspect. I cannot speak for the nation or its people. But when I wen't there, after I found out how the majority of the fancy skyscrapers were built, place felt soulless man, at least the main city.

Yeah, that too. Why do we awe at places like the Colosseum, human nature.

I guess the point is, now, knowing as much as we do, we shouldn't allow for it anymore. Sadly, it doesn't work that way.

Which is why some are scared what will happen when the last generation to remember WWII and the aftermath dies.
Yep. It explains all the museums, the archival projects, etc.

There is legitimate conventional wisdom that the horrors of war become more and more abstract the less a generation has a connection to one. Here in the U.S. our wars are ongoing but pretty much sanitized for the public. The gain is that it makes it much easier to agree to start or join another one.

It's not a bad opinion. While forgetting how bad war is leads to hawks who want to play Rambo week in and week out, a little forgetting could do a lot of good in places like the Balkans, the Middle East, etc.

I think we can safely assume Dubai isn't going to develop into anything special.
Yer kind of 20 years too late with that one. They basically built a Vegas to top Vegas ... just replace the publicly visible prostitutes with indentured servants from the subcontinent.

doubt that was their intention, it just wanted to look the part, and i think it does
But so easy to see through.

Yes, but Vegas is Vegas. It has somehow managed to have some sort of character. It's ridiculous, but not in denial about it.

Dubai on the other hand will probably be a barren wasteland in 2025.
