I've only ever been once, and I guess because it's cheap, the women are insane and the weather in the right season is incredible.

All those three are catalysts for a popular holiday destination.

People need to stop being so offended, some really white girl made a status about how her friend put on blackface for a costume party and she said how wrong it was. I agree that if she wen't as a classic blackface character, mocking black people it is....But If I dress up as Blade it isnt. Ill stick by that. It is context. I have now been accused of not growing up with black people, being a right wing dickhead and being defensive about my racism.

Which is hilarious because I am very left wing and believe in equality very very strongly. I also grew up with African Australian friends and A couple of African Americans quite closely.

The woman who was being incredibly condescending also referred to black people as POC's. Which I found ridiculous.

I hear you on this one. It doesn't make much sense to me either, at least on the surface. The trouble is that, for some people, it recalls a past when the same techniques were used in a very racist way -- independent of the context today for dressing up as Blade. This is our new PC world of trigger warnings, so unfortunately there are people finding evidence of harmful intent when none was ever intended.

What makes blackface a racist offense isn't trying to be Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder... it's the legacy of minstrel theater and white actors playing on black stereotypes.

Ironically, people today are less and less likely to know the details of the horrible history of slavery from those who grew up just 20-30 years ago. In some ways, I guess that's progress. But in other ways, forgetting or losing connection with how bad things get or were isn't always an asset.

Yeah, as I said, it is all about context. I think the world just needs to not be so offended at pointless things. Jokes, stuff like this, it gets us nowhere and makes racism relevant in a way. The importance is not to forget but move on in a way. Not saying accept people mocking other races or whatever, but a bit of face paint doesn't make me a racist, what does is how I act. I have never even worn black face paint by the way, the blade thing was the best example I could think of :p
