You meant vice versa I suppose. When Ale went to Australia he did not go to a country where human rights are violated on a massive scale. And I'm sure you're going to come up with some sort of statement as to why they are violated in Europe and the US as well. And that's true. But it's not the same in India. Nowhere near. You know that. I know that. If you're a public figure like Ale, you have a moral obligation to snub these countries.
Well obviously I'm not going to argue that western countries violate human rights anywhere near as much as third world countries such as India. But is that really relevant to Del Piero choosing to play there? You know that if we start going by that ridiculous logic, then why can't we say public figures have a moral obligation to snub most western countries? I mean after all, we've seen the senate investigation into CIA's torture program that Scandinavian countries alongside other western countries helped facilitate CIA's torture of detainees. I blame all the major players for playing in countries like Spain, England and Italy for their role in the torture of detainees :agree:

Fucking Thierry Henry, used to be my favorite player, now I'm wondering, didn't he have a moral obligation not to promote football at a country that invades other countries, and has a systematic torture program :disagree:

Please feel free to stop me when you feel its getting too ridiculous. :)

Yes, Fred, it is relevant for Del Piero to play there. How were the stadiums built? Where does the funding come from? How and by whom does he get paid?

The same reasons it was an abysmal decision to appoint Qatar for the World Cup apply here. Only Del Piero could have made a decision not to become a part of all this bullshit.

And this is all very relevant. It is only when people start snubbing countries that you might have a chance to have basic human rights applied. I would argue that the same does go for western countries. If the standard is not high enough, the country does not deserve the presence of a world class athlete.
