Personally, I think there's a lot of "sky is falling" nonsense going on. We love melodrama here.

I am guessing that Vidal was gone, and that was a key reason behind Conte's exit. But even if you could convince that now isn't the time to sell Vidal, or ever, the truth remains that to make big changes to anticipate European growth and success, the club still needs to take big and not incremental risks. Free transfers will only get us so far, and we're not sitting on a pile of cash to burn like all the Arab owners out there.

Conte couldn't stomach that ride for the longer haul -- or at least the way the owners wanted to go about it. And given his state just six weeks ago, I suspect Conte was either leaving now, six weeks ago, or within the year. May as well rip the bandage off and face our next phase head-on. Even if it must mean a disposable coach or two along the way.
