Because almost all my friends use FB chat (and the ones who don't, use Gchat). Also, based on people I know talking about it, most people I know had never even heard of it before the other day - which is kinda funny since they're a local company.
Honestly, I've never been a big phone-talker, even before texting came along. I always found it really awkward, not sure if it's because I can't actually see them or what, but then again I have no problem with texting or email/IM.

Yeah, if it's just to make plans or something then fine, but yeah that's how I get. And then there end up being too many uncomfortable silences, which I can't stand.

Silences are only uncomfortable if you make them uncomfortable. I learned a long time ago that when I stop talking I need to put my dick up, lest things get "awkward".
Go pro! Then you $#@! around with the hard drive and replace it with an Solid Slate Drive (SSD), or even snatch off the disk drive and slip in an SSD in there. It's what I did to my macbook 5 years ago and it's still running like a boss.
