Such a fucking fail, never encountered this random bizzareness before, met chica I seen out few times (just dancing and random chit-chats in crowded clubs in couple of nights) asked for her number, after casually BSing with her for 30 mins on ze train (she was funnier then I recalled), or so I thought...When I'm about to get off I say bye and some silly pun with her name, and she is shocked and laughs, says thats not my name, and the train door closes.
I didnt pay it no mind, not the first one to say something else then her real name first time you met them (or I misremembered since I wasnt 100% sober when she said her name). 2 mins after that she calls me and, laughing, she's like "wait, why did you call me by twin sisters name?"
Truly wtf

Said no can do, busy, but next week instead, imma let this awkwardness pass atleast more then few days before texting/calling (I would mind troll myself, wondering which one would really turn up for it ). Thats nothing, have you randomly been asked by some chick, who stands too awkwardly close to the public bathroom door you just exited, "are you colombian? You look like you are colombian". If no, truly, you are lucky, because I was seriously stumped, said no, I'm Ghanaian (why I dont know), and just left before the awkwardness grew into possible cringe moment.

It was a deliberately facetious response to a nonsensical question. Plus do you know how many airheaded european chicks (random hook-ups or just brief chats), who I have told I'm somali, and they have NO idea its even in africa, let alone were able to name more then like 3 african countries (people assume its mainly just americans who are geographically challenged). The Ghana thing, I have no idea, but it was during World cup when they were wooping ass, and we all were calling eachother Asamoah Gyan after doing his dance for laughs all summer, so kinda stuck in my mind at the time.
Listen, I have no doubt that you're not ashamed of where you're from - I should think you're too intelligent for that bullshit. But plenty of Somali people do exactly that simply because Somali's as a whole have been socially stigmatized. I have friend who are ardent anti-racists, the only time I hear them making generalizing comments are when Somali people are the targets of it. Always fun to call them out on their hypocrisy when that happens. I stick with the much safer choice and voice myself in almost stricktly generalizing ways towards all groups.

Only time I ever pretended to be something else, not just not somali, but not someone who is "from" Sweden, was in high school summer trip (like 13 years ago) with closest childhood friends (all immigrants, half of them francophiles, north africans mainly and 1 Gambian). We spent 2-3 days with some swedish chicks in Greece, pretending to be from France (for extra credibility, took out the "so" and said I'm from Mali lol), it was an absolute childish riot BSing in the most corny french accent in english, while fully understanding what they were saying about us (if we needed to "prove" our legitness, 3 of us were speaking french for a bit).
2 days fooled them (in fairness, it wasnt 24/7 chameleon work, mainly at night gatherings), end of 2nd day one of them got hip to it, she was good enough sport to let us keep BSing her dumb friends while she was smirking for the whole last day
(they were going back home). To this day, if anyone of us discusses any immigrant issues and just feel like joking around, someone mentions this trip and mentions it as the one main upside to being a swedish immigrant
