They did, he said he used it to break down the door after he shot her and realised it wasn't a burglar.
It's so dumb, he says he shouted "Who is it? Get out!" or whatever, but surely she would have heard that and replied? What was going on that made it so she couldn't hear him shouting, from right outside the bathroom? Why shoot four times? How did he fail to notice between the balcony and the bathroom that she wasn't in bed? Especially when you fear there's a burglar in the bathroom, you think you'd check your girlfriend was alright (or surely she'd be freaking out too?)

I assume he doesn't sleep with them on. So he's had to get out of bed, put them on and get his gun, and over this time period still thinks there is someone stealing his toothpaste?
I could imagine that not being able to instantly jump up and defend himself would certainly make him anxious of potential burglars, but the whole things seems quite strange.
