Whaddya mean, Abel? Prosthelytizing is one of life's greatest joys.

I can't tell you how many times I've felt disappointed when I walked into a subway station and wasn't accosted by a guy carrying placards and handing out brochures.

Because it is. It's a form of personal metaphysics. Whether you have an organized lobby of whack jobs professing the magic of underpants or an organized lobby of yes-men who masturbate to Daniel Dennett... it's the same circus, different clowns, yo.
If you people want to dilute the meaning of the word 'religion' so that it fits your agenda, then that's just dishonest. People with similar interests, views, ideas and who are inspired by similar people or ideologies will always come together. And they will voice their opinions out loud so that they can attract more people who are like them. If you want to label that as religion, then you are heading down a very slippery slope. You risk calling any group of people a religion. Once you do that, you become blind to the differences between the groups, which IMO is a LOT!

I fully understand that you find people like me annoying. But you're not helping your cause by labeling us a 'religion'.

Sorry, it's a religion. Or an excuse for religious beliefs. Every human on earth has some positional attitude about this subject matter. The only difference is that a number of atheists want you to believe that they are the "special ones" and their beliefs are so different and unique in the universe that they deserve a special category unto themselves.

Like human history has never heard that religious argument before...

after all the discussions I've watched with X participating, I still honestly don't know if he's a believer, agnostic, atheist or if he's just fundamentally unsatisfied with the manner of discussion. :boh:
I don't think he likes any discussions about gods or religions at all.
then at the very least you could figure out the right forum for your hobby before figuring out questions pertaining to the universe
I find many in this forum who like to indulge in the same hobby too. Afterall, it wasn't me who started the 'Religion' sub-forum. If you don't like it, then you should either lobby for a rule that prohibits religious discussion, get the Religion sub-forum removed, or at the very least, ignore it altogether. And put me on the ignore list if I'm really as bad as you say I am.

Sorry, it's NOT a religion. The word 'religion' has a specific meaning, and is used in a specific context in the world today. You can make up personal definitions to include atheism into it, but I'm not buying it. It's just stupid and dishonest. Silence is NOT a genre of music. Atheism is NOT a religion!

It may not be one of my greatest joys, but it's certainly one of my favourite words.

I do tend to agree with Abel and Greg, Sheik. There is nothing wrong with discussing the viewpoint of atheism, but it seems sometimes you bring it up in really unnecessary places and in an antagonistic way. Being vociferous about one can be as irritating as the other. But then, what do I know :D

I brought up the 'miracle of god' thing as a joke. It was a reply to a specific post by a person who shares some of my views and sense of humour, and would get what I meant. Which you did. It's anti-atheists like X who took the post, and himself, a little too seriously and started to attack me for it and bring this whole discussion into the rest of the forum. Do these people even realize that we can talk about something and not always be serious about it?

You're shaving hairs. It's a rose by any other name.

Call it "a personal set of metaphysical beliefs". Wonderful. Now what has that changed? Nothing. All the rules still apply.

Oh, btw...
Silence is NOT a genre of music.

I was not referring to that one time, I got what you intended there. It just seems to come up a lot, and you tweet about it a lot, to the point where if I were of a differing view I would likely be overwhelmed.

No, YOU are calling it "a personal set of metaphysical beliefs". I'm calling it "a rejection of supernatural beliefs".

Well forgive me for expressing my opinion against something that I feel is mind-bogglingly unreasonable. I'll force myself to sit by in silence and watch it happen just so I can please you anti-atheists from now on!

How so? What are my set of metaphysical beliefs, and how are they a form of my rejection of a belief?
Whether you like chocolate, vanilla, or if you don't like ice cream at all, that is your personal position towards ice cream.

Whether you believe in an Old Testament Yahweh, or whether you believe in the scientific method of evidence-based proof, or whether you're an agnostic who essentially will believe it when they see it, that is your personal position towards your metaphysical existence within the universe. Each one is a belief system addressing common issues.
