Greg, howz your new company comming along? How does it feel to be a boss?

Thanks for asking, Woody. Massive demo for our main investor on Tuesday, so it's a bit nerve-wracking. A lot of progress in some areas, but a lot of competition overall. I see it that our goal right now is to get into the game so we can at least compete and play. Once we do that, the next challenge will be to demonstrate we're better than the others.

So I'll know more about how we're coming along next week.

As for being the boss, I'm a pretty rational one. I try to make sure we're doing whatever we can to get stuff done, ensure people have ownership and authority, and distribute the load. I'm very much a regista on the team. I'm feeling pretty effective at it, so I like that part.

Well, granted a lot of things make you vomit, in fact it's a small miracle that you can get through a day , but go on.

I did with the piano for a couple of years. But after a while, practicing the same things over and over again wasn't very inspirational -- especially when I could be outside playing with friends. (Though I know for today's children, playing outside with friends ranks somewhere around taking intravenous drugs in an abandoned minefield among parental risk factors these days.)

Perhaps if I had Chinese parents who insisted that my fingers bleed before I was finished, I would be somewhere with that and I'd enjoy the craft a lot more.

I actually wish my parents had sent me for piano/violin/any instrument lessons. Anything I learnt was mostly on my own and I am not very good at it.

Kids have no patience to practice playing an instrument.

I'm pretty sure you would be a fantastic mentor, i really do. I don't see you as a boss who is hated by his slaves

About this new company, are you holding shares in the business or they just paying you fat to do the job for you? I ask because ive been doing a lot of thinking lately about going back to china for at least a year. Last time i was there i tried my hand on a couple of businesses. Opened a coffee place and a foreign language school with a few local friends i made along the years. I did not invest a single dime, i was paid fat and it was like a family of friends running. I got the money and i just had to use it, the cafe we sold off after a year with some profit but the foreign school just took off from there! Now its one of the top 3 foreign language schools in that town.

Now if i go back, im thinking of opening one of my own, but i'll be massively screwed if it flops last time around there was no pressure, this time there is a lot of competition.

The last time i opened the school i usually hired all my foreign friends as teachers, i just hated to hire/work with someone i didnt know or hated to be depended on someone else. If a teacher didnt show up for a class it was no big issue coz me or one of my friends would take over.

Level 0 - donno what "hello" means
Level 1 - Can understand basic conversational english but cannot reply back
Level 2 - Can talk in Chinglish and understand most of conversational english
and so on...so you would teach students who are level 2 and higher. I used to give the foreign teachers a chinese translator to help them along in the lower level classes.

Clarinet is better for the boyfriends, it has tonguing and the fingering is much more complex.
