I made it a mission myself to get through college with no loans. Every year I found a new funding source and attended a public uni, commuted to downtown Chicago for uni from my parents' house, etc.

You really can't do that without owing something these days.

I had no idea student loans were that horrible in the states. It's the best loan possible in Denmark. People take it even though they have money enough to study just because it's a very affordable way of getting money for investing.
