Bah. Most of Vietnam is known for mass-produced robusta that I call "disgusta"... stuff the Big 4 swooped in and chemically treated to taste more like arabica coffee and to save a few bucks per pound for its heartier, more productive lot.

There's good robusta out there to be sure (most I've found in India and a few other places -- depends on how they handle it). And Vietnam has some decent coffee, but it's the ridiculous minority there.

As for civet coffee, it just tasted like a sad gimmick novelty coffee to me... nothing to write home about but the story. Here's what I wrote about it on my blog a little over 4 years ago:

Have you been to vietnam/cambodia and tried the coffee there? It was delicious. I did get some shit coffee out there but that was a minority occurance and mainly in hostels.

Not Vietnam/Cambodia, but Malaysia. Not the same, but...

It's delicious, but for very different reasons. And reasons often having little to do with the quality of the coffee itself.

I found it tasted really smooth/velvety/nutty. Its hard to put a name to it. They kept ruining it by putting condenced milk in it, even when i ordered it black.

Dhee added me to the juve chat thing on skype but it iritated me, kept popping up when i was talking to other people and now its gone for some reason .

Can anyone explain to me why I have to write out the critical arguments surrounding a specific method everytime i write a methodology? Academia know the arguments, my dept know that i know the arguments because they taught me them...all im doing is re-writing what i've 5 times already this year and I have to make sure its different because they cross reference my work to ensure than im not self plagiarising. The fucking pedantry that goes in academia pisses me off sometimes.
