Because the sun is overrated!

So bad news, I'm officially ill again. I was slated to work tomorrow, but my colleague said he'll cover for me. Good news then, I can watch the Juve match :weee:

Just heard of an NFL team called The Packers... Unfortunate name. I'd imagine their fans wouldn't be the type to engage in banter.
Yes, and they are currently the reigning national champions.

The name gets a little ribbing, but surprisingly little for what you might expect. It's one of the NFL's oldest franchises, back when there were teams like the Canton, Ohio Bulldogs. Teams were very much like football clubs in Europe back then, as they had strange affiliations... a la Moscow Lokomotiv, etc. Except instead of railroad workers, the folks in Green Bay were under the support of this club via what was called the Indian Packing Company. At least they sponsored the kits for the club, and the name has stuck as part of the original sponsorship. (See: the Pittsburgh Steelers and the steel industry there.)

The cool thing about them is that they are the only non-profit, community owned sports team of the major sports in America. They even play in a minuscule, small town.

Nice lesson there. But what's the strange affiliation that Lokomotiv has?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Lokomotiv_Moscow
Lokomotiv was originally founded as Club of the October Revolution on 12 August 1923, and it united the strongest football players of several roads of the Moscow railway junction. In 1931, the club was renamed to Kazanka (Moskovskaya-Kazanskaya Zh.D) and in 1936, it was eventually renamed to as it is known today, Lokomotiv. During the Communist rule, Lokomotiv Moscow club was a part of the Lokomotiv Voluntary Sports Society and it was owned by the Soviet Ministry of Transportation through the Russian Railways.
Similarly, CSKA had its roots in the Army, Dinamo in the police, Spartak by the trade union, etc.
