Word up on that. You can find great food in Paris, but it takes a bit of work, research, and planning. Unlike Italy, you cannot just walk into any corner place and expect a decent meal. The typical Parisian fare is pretty lame, IMO.

Yes, but you have to know where to go. I could be anywhere in Rome and walk into a dive deli and ask for a panino, and it would rock. I walk into any French bistro even in a decent neighborhood, say the 5th, and 9 times out of 10 the food will just be "meh".
yes exactly, i was expecting it to be more like italy... but oh man, not even close

no wonder the french are so jealous of italians ;)

Auteuil, so the southern part of the 16th. Catherine Deneuve's mother lived in my building :shifty:
i live in the fifth

Maybe I did just know where to go, or rather I was lucky in that I only went good places. For the most part I cooked for myself; my flatmate taught me how to cook properly and the rest of the time she took me out. I was on my own in few situations, but even then you can't go wrong with baguette + good deli meat + fresh butter.
I cook for myself aswell, i would be starving if i didn't. and for sure, ibuy a baguette everyday to eat with cheese and stuff. i didn't say there was a problem with simple things like that... but if i were to go to a restaurant, omg i feel like vomiting!

I would gladly cook for you all, provided Greg's wife does the same.

Prêt à Manger is indeed horrible (most of the time), but a piece of bread with some salami and butter from a bakery/café can be absolutely wondrous.
uff i can't stand butter with salami. yuck!
heheheheh i guess we just have different tastes.
I can definitely see that when cooking in. Paris was great for inexpensive but excellent wines that they never export, for example.

I highly recommend her food. She rocks. :lick: And she's done a bit of the French thing in the past.

Oh, I am good with the buy some cheese and salami and baguette picnic and all. I'm talking about going to dinner around the corner at the nearby brasserie or bistro. Most of them were lame.
I totally agree with you!

Again, I only ever had good experiences (except once), so I would feel it unfair to say it's bad.
lucky! hehe

I still think one of the most hilarious movie scenes I've seen this year is from the movie Taken. Liam Neeson listens to his daughter being kidnapped and then learns he has less than 72 hours to find her given who is behind it. He boards the first chartered jet he can find to Paris so he can land and kick ass ASAP to find his daughter.

And what scene do we have on his arrival in Paris? Carrying a grocery bag to his apartment with a baguette sticking out of it ... like the guy was thinking, "Yeah, she's got only hours for me to find her before she's gone for good. But hey -- I'm in Paris. Check out those baguettes! I gotta pull over and get me one of those..."

Has anyone ever dislike somebody from the forum? Because, I'm getting that feeling
Not dislike, but been frustrated by. There are a few people that I know I would hate if we met in real life.

I just dislike adriano c guy. Has an uppity attitude, half of times says things he doesn't know about, and has air of false superiority. Also, I'm pretty sure has me on his ignore list. So in short, Fuck him.

KTD, if you're in the 5th, I might be able to give you some tips on some redemptive places in the neighborhood. Like I said, you have to know where to go. And the 5th Arr was where I stayed in Paris last time.

But I hear you -- just picking a place is certain disappointment.
