Recruiting has never been competitive to begin with. SMU can attest to that. I watched the 30 on 30 documentary "Pony Excess" again on ESPN 2, and it is amazing what those people did. I knew it was pretty bad, but what they actually did was 10 times worse than I thought.
I've been to Paris at least 5-6 times and stayed in various neighborhoods... from nice hotels to staying at a friend-of-a-friend's apartment. Paris is overloaded with meh food if you don't know where to go.
That's deep 16... pretty far out. Maybe that was my problem. Though I did stay in an apartment in Rue de Lèvis in the 17th. But there too, the food was mostly meh if you didn't specifically know where to go.

Maybe I did just know where to go, or rather I was lucky in that I only went good places. For the most part I cooked for myself; my flatmate taught me how to cook properly and the rest of the time she took me out. I was on my own in few situations, but even then you can't go wrong with baguette + good deli meat + fresh butter.

Oh, I am good with the buy some cheese and salami and baguette picnic and all. I'm talking about going to dinner around the corner at the nearby brasserie or bistro. Most of them were lame.

I'm not saying it was bad. Just unmemorable. The quality was on par as if you dropped me in the middle of a street in Hartford, CT, for example. We expect Paris, but we get Hartford. There are some excellent places in Paris to be sure. But the baseline -- the median quality place -- really needs work there in terms of quality.
