I have never done translation as an actual job, only bits and bobs in link with other roles, but there are lots of freelancing sites out there. Universities with exchange students often keep rosters of freelance qualified translators for when their students need birth certificates done or visa forms. There is a lot of need for those types of things (marriage certificates, acceptance letters, etc.)
Anything bigger tends to just be advertised like any normal job, but you might need a certificate.
