 i've always thought u give toooooooooooooooooooo much thought into this andy to be honest, but i cant disagree u have to know whats going on with yr economy to prepare for the worst or as u mentioned make money. i've read an example of this in one of my friends business text books and it stated that when certain economies go thru rescission there are people who know how to make the most out of it. if memory serves me right its about people who invest in bonds and stocks during these periods.
Bonds are traditionally a safe haven, but that's even coming into question now. Stocks have been hit quite a lot during the past year, so some people are buying. I wouldn't be too sure that right now is a good time to enter as there are still quite a lot of problems we'll face in our economy. Right now what's going on is just a bear market suckers rally, IMO.

But other than being in decent shape to protect yourself, these markets are just incredibly interesting to follow. Everything so intricately flows together with all the pieces of the puzzle falling on the table. Putting all the pieces together is where the fun but hard work comes in.

Doesn't the transaction fee kill you on small trades? Is it a set fee or a percentage?
That's another reason why I'm trading currencies. The fees are smaller.

For online brokers in stocks, trades are about $9 per trade, so it is rather steep.

I want to do day trading where I make a few short term trades each day, but to make money doing that you need an account of at least $10,000 to cover fees and create enough leverage for yourself.

All of our supervisors at work will be away the whole of July as they'll be training other support centers in India. SO, a few agents, like me, have been selected as acting supervisors for 15 days each in July! We'll be doing almost everything that our supervisors will do, and our performance will be closely monitored. This is going to be a BIG change for me to move up in the organization! :excited:
 Make it count, Sheik.
