I know, that's why I first bought a solid amp + CDP, vinyl requires much more investing(additional phono pre-amp, turntable, cartridge, etc.). But you can still find good and cheap stuff if you buy vintage, you just have to buy a new cartridge for it and it's as good as new. Plus, there are some new manufacturers that make excellent turntables for decent amount of money, like Pro-ject.
But the sound that vinyl gives is worth all that and I'm glad it's coming back into fashion. Vinyl is definetly my next investment.

That's some pretty good stuff, I don't see the need to change it any time soon unless you get some serious cash influx or you're simply unsatisfied with the sound, which I doubt. Doesn't matter if it's 10 years old, this stuff made to last for a lifetime. 
I actually can't wait to BUY vinyl records, but I can't say the same for CD's. The way new CD's are produced now is awful, sound quality wise.

Which is strange because only for that, you should be familiar with some of the terms used here. You lived more in the vinyl era than me or Alen. 
Everything depends on what you want to buy. If it's Hi-Fi seperates, there are a lot of options now just as good, even better than Technics; like NAD, Cambridge Audio, Rotel, Marantz, Harman-Kardon, etc. Speakers from KEF, Wharfedale, Bowers & Wilkins, etc. Lots of options are out there, but Technics is still the Alfa and Omega of turntables but they cost a lot.
At the end, the brand doesn't matter much, what's important is the sound. Be sure to sit down and listen before you buy.
